Following the loss of JP2, we all waited anxiously for the conclave of cardinals to come to an end. On Tuesday, the second day of the conclave, I was just leaving dinner when someone ran in and announced "WHITE SMOKE! WHITE SMOKE!" meaning that the cardinals came to an agreement and there was a new pope. Tru and I ran upstairs to Suzy, the RD's apartment, where she had one of the only available TVs around. We waited watching CNN for 40 minutes in Suzy's crowded little apartment before they came out and announced we have a new pope, and it was Cardinal Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI.
This is really exciting, cuz Ratzinger, I mean B-16, has been a really close guy to JP2, and I have one of his books at home. He's our new shepherd, and he will continue to lead his sheep to Christ.
Viva il Papa!
PS - I'm going back to Rome on Saturday for the day...Pray for me...
