"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."

-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Please, don't be swayed by Fox News, or the Mormon Church. Disregard what you may be told by the Westboro Baptist Church or "Pro Family" organizations. You have all been wronged; we have all been wronged. Proposition 8 has passed and is now a California state law banning same sex marriages. I guess I could let it go and not care, since I am neither gay nor living in California, but either we all have rights, or none of us do. These people who crusade against the rights of same sex couples are the same people that Dr. King himself fought against, they have simply found a new enemy. That a legal argument could have been made against giving rights to people based on color is unfathomable at this time, and in 50 years, it will be every bit as hard to understand how this argument could have been made today. There has to come a time where the other side of this argument, the side that has promoted intolerance from the dawn of time, starts to understand that their views are inevitably found to be ignorant and unacceptable. These people will have to learn some day that they are arguing in favor of George Wallace standing in front of the schoolhouse door, Hitler rounding up an exterminating as many jews as possible, the many who owned slaves in the American south, the governments in Western Sudan and Zimbabwe that are exterminating entire tribes, and anyone who has oppressed people they understand. We have finally come to understand that these people are monsters, but we clearly have not reached the point where we all understand what the argument is truly about. We become offended on behalf of certain people. By this point, we should be offended at the attitudes and beliefs that cause injustice, and on behalf of all of us.
