Today is one of those days when it's good to have a popsicle in hand. It's not really hot out, but it's 63 degrees (F) and the entire sky is clouded over with barely any breeze. Nevertheless, I was glad to get out of my apartment for a little walkabout and I feel fairly accomplished. For anyone who happens to be curious as to my Sunday activities thus far, see
behind this cut.
Got up, showered, etc.
Watched episode 2, season 6 of Dawson's Creek.
Read Find Me by Rosie O'Donnel.
Took out garbage and took bottles to recycling.
Bought an ice cream with the money from the bottle recycling.
Returned Find Me to the public library.
Walked down to Everyday Music on Burnside. Bought the new Feist album "The Reminder" and V for Vendetta.
Wandered around Powell's for a good half hour before deciding to buy Wicked and flirted with the cute girl (I'm a sucker for short hair and glasses, what can I say) at the register.
Walked up to Safeway again to get the messages some popsicles.
Came home and enjoyed a tangerine popsicle while writing this post.
Last Friday was the Midterm Movie Marathon at the QRC, sponsored by Q & A, which I stayed at from 3 - 9 pm. We watched an episode of Fraggle Rock, an episode of The Muppets, The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, and The Secretary which I'd never seen before. It was, well, interesting... I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal did a great job, as per usual. We also had good fun critiquing the Disney movies from a Feminist/non-hetero perspective. It was good to get away from studying for the night for sure.
I've decided where I want to go next summer and I think I'll even have a travel buddy! The adventure style cruise is called
Norwegian Fjords and Polar Bears and starts off from Edinburgh (technically Leith), hits The Orkneys, Shetland Islands, Bergen, Runde, Alesund, Trondheim, Fjords of Norway, Lofoten Islands, Tromso, Bear Island, Svalbard, and ends up in Longyearbyen. My friend
Hayley has always wanted to go to Norway so I gave her a ring and she's up for it! Here's the extremely tentative plan: Go over to the UK one or hopefully two weeks before the boat leaves. Visit Libby at University of Bristol. Head up to Edinburgh, stopping any place we find interesting. Stay in Edinburgh until the boat leaves, giving me a chance to visit all my dearly missed friends and show Hayley around the awesome city. Then we get on the boat headed for the Arctic for the next two weeks. After we get dropped off in Longyearbyen we'll probably head home for the States. Hopefully it'll all work out because I would love to travel with Hayley, see Libby at her new school, and just get out again!
Yesterday was my Grandpa's birthday so I went with my aunt and uncle to his assisted living place for lunch and cake. My aunt showed me how to get him around in his wheelchair because I'll be the one caring for him when a bunch of my family and I go to see Chicago in June. I wanted to take him for a little walk around the living room with his walker and when my aunt and the nurse said he looked ready for his wheelchair, I asked him if he wanted to walk a little more, which he said he did. It upsets me that people who care for him all the time forget to ask him directly what he wants to do. Sure, he's got Alzheimer's and all that, but give the man a chance to have some free will! Anyway, he looked up at me and said, "I'm going to follow your lead; we're on your terms now." I was honestly kind of surprised that he would trust me even though he had no idea who I was. Anyway, he and I walked around the living room while my aunt and the nurse followed him around like dingleberries. Which was annoying. Oh well.
Next week will be slightly busy: Classes as usual, Q & A meeting on Wednesday, Pride planning meeting and The Fratellis concert on Friday and then Mother's Day and Libby's graduation ceremony in Tacoma on Sunday.
