Addicted to Books

Just got back from the most wonderful trip to the county library and PSU's library. I got a shit ton of books. I kidd you not, y'all. A shit ton. Well, does 17 count as a shit ton? (I just like how "shit ton" sounds.)

One of the books I got is How Animals Have Sex: A Guide to the Reproductive Habits of Creatures Great and Small by David Strorm. (Use the "Search Inside" tool to see some sample pages.) Here's an excerpt about a type of octopus called a Paper Nautilus:

Some things can really make you take a long, hard look at what you're doing with your life. Watching a sad documentary about tiny Romanian orphans. Seeing a baby lamb being born. Finding yourself typing the sentence 'detachable swimming penis'... For these creatures, the spermatophore-carrying arm actually breaks off and swims under its own power into the female. The male then begins to waste away and dies not long after. Possibly the trauma of watching his penis swim off without him has something to do with this. I don't know what happens if the penis misses and accidentally swims into a shark's mouth or something. Presumably the nautilus has a bit of a cry.

Other than that, I got five books on animals in captivity, nine on women's experiences in Scotland (labour, prostitution, prisons), and three for the heck of it. The just for fun ones are How Animals Have Sex, Not One Damsel in Distress and Rapture: How Biotech Became the New Religion. I love books.

Also, WTF?! If I wanted to trim my eyelashes I would have been a camel. Jeez!
