Black Hole

How is it possible that with two entire wardrobes full of clothes it took me a good two hours to get dressed this afternoon?  Everything I picked up was just wrong wrong wrong. Too big, too small, too old, too boring. Contrary to popular belief, it has been a very long time since I went on any serious shopping sprees, (although does the blow out on vintage in the States count?) and am now finding myself bereft of so many important basic items. It is entirely possible that this has happened because I haven't followed my own shopping rules and what I have bought in the past few years, has not been with an eye to anything else in the wardrobe and I've just gone with what I love.  Yes, it makes for some creative outfits, but where does that leave me when all I need is a plain white shirt and there is not a one to be had?

There are three black skirts in there but each one has its flaws.  Too big and long, sexy but WAYY too tight, and far far to short for someone with knees my age!  I've been purging so much of my wardrobe, making trip after trip to the op shop (three full car loads I kid you not) and even a day at the markets to try and recoup some of my losses.  Yet still, I am left with not a hanger to spare and too many things I am tired of.  And do you know how this happens?  Some people are kidding themselves when they say, "Oh but I might just need that one day." However, it is my experience that something can sit unloved for months to year son end, only to be rediscovered and worked into something entirely fabulous.  Perhaps it is all to do with timely inspiration, but I like to have this security blanket of a closet to draw from.  when you have such a schizophrenic fashion sense, it pays to have a lot of variety to draw from.

But then, I am back to square one. Standing in my dressing gown looking forlornly at the rails of clothes and despising them all in their individual states.  And so I work and I work with what is there until it gives me a nod and say, "It's okay.  You haven't lost your mojo.  You just couldn't find it inside all of this!"
