Cats and wedding gowns and Neil Gaiman

One of the upsides of being unemployed is that you have time. Loads of time. The internet is a cheap thrill these days. Two years with limited access and now I'm researching everything from cars (which I have no intention of buying) to dog and cat food. Yesterday's curiosity was the later. We've been passively feeding our animals with grocery-store food for years, and I'm pretty sure this has contributed to Mia's current kidney problems. So, I've researched premium cat food brands (expensive). And, now I'm thinking of making my own raw cat food. It's mostly because of Roux (RIP, dear kitty), whose meal of choice was whole, young chickens. Grocery-store cat foods are chock-full of meat by-products and fillers like corn and grains that bulk up the product but aren't nutritionally beneficial to the cat. I have more research to do, and I'd definitely like to talk to a vet before I start, but I think I've got a decent basic recipe.

Hoorah. I tried on my first wedding dress yesterday. It's a definite slam in the face. "Hey, asshole. You're getting married." You have to take it seriously after that.

I tried on four or five, and was amazed that they all looked pretty darn good. I made Susan take pictures. The last one was gorgeous, and every once in a while I look at the picture again and think too many happy adjectives. I feel weird trying on these extravagant dresses, like I'm unworthy of being a pretty bride. I'm liking the idea of a backyard ceremony, and since I'll only have a handful of people there, I can do it pretty cheaply. This will, by no means, be a formal wedding. Hell, people can sit on the grass. I'll lay out capulanas. Only, I'll be wearing an amazing, extravagant dress.

Another notable thing; there is an interesting article about Neil Gaiman in the New Yorker. They certainly gave him a healthy ego. Also, the Cryonics article is fascinating (what if the power goes out?), and the cover makes me happy. I guess I never got over the skeletal thing. Bones, man. How many lessons did I do about the function of the osseo-muscular system. So many...
