I *heart* Critical Mass

With Burning Man almost upon us (or rather, upon the desert in Nevada), I've watched a number of people in my LJ friends list talk about it for a while, make their elaborate preparations, and especially, talk about "going home."

I keep meaning to go, and one of these years I will, but in the meantime... I have found my own little private "coming home."

Critical Mass.

As any reader of my journal knows, I have a little love affair with my bicycle. I don't know many people who share my love, joy, sense of freedom, and wish for more car-bound folks (who are able to -- I know it's not a possibility for many), discover the absolute joys of cycling as a form of commuting.

What is Critical Mass? According to one flyer, it is "a spontaneous monthly bike ride to promote bicycle advocacy. We gather to assert our right to take up space on the road, and to encourage healthy, affordable, and ecologically sustainable transportation."

For me, it is a place to be surrounded by over a hundred (in the summertime months) people who feel the same way as I do about it. When I made it there last night, I felt the most comfortable I have felt in Toronto thusfar.

Some cool shots of me, gakked from http://www.torontocranks.com:
