{rp} Will you follow me into fire? Will you follow me into darkness? Will you follow me into death?

Suzie's chosen a relatively isolated spot -- no point in possibly knocking anyone else out when Thane comes to get her -- and is sitting comfortably, leaning back against a tree, browsing The Complete Emily Dickinson. (Paper books, at last!) The Dickinson calms her down, and the tree ought to spare her any undignified toppling over when she's ( Read more... )

When Suzie regains consciousness, there's a moment when she tenses, almost invisibly, and tries to take stock of the situation. One hand cuffed, not both, on a chair... Better treatment than what the hostages got. It's a good sign.

Time to be social, then. Besides, she's got the feeling he knew the moment she was up.

She opens her eyes, wary but not at all surprised by either the fact circumstances of her capture or the location she finds herself in. Clever. But then, you always were. D'you know how hard I worked to keep up with you, Captain?

"Agent Thane." There's a small, polite smile on her lips, giving every appearance of having herself under control. The fear's there, beneath the surface, but she's a professional, and is behaving as such. As professional as traitors get, anyway.

And then, though she's almost dreading it, she switches her Rift ability back on.

Jack?

"Suzie Costello," Thane identifies. Sometimes the journals work to his favor. As far as names are concerned. The one with the interesting reaction when I came by for a visit. And you're familiar, too - I don't know why, but I want to. Familiar for something other than that one little meeting. "You wanted to see me. I have to admit, that was a surprise."

Who the hell wants to join this jumpwreck?Thane has three shadows, right now. The strongest and foremost is the tar-black one, breathing quickly, trapped in a cower near Thane's elbow. Beside and behind it, very faint, a much younger version of Jack wearing a clean-cut uniform, charcoal-grey and edged in gold and red ( ... )

Suzie smiles. "You want my reasoning? I'm the practical one. Believe it or not, Torchwood does occasionally hire people with more sense than sentimentality. Everything I've seen of you tells me that you've got absolutely nothing to lose, Torchwood has no way of dealing with you effectively, and the more they try, the worse things will get for them in the long run. Care to speculate on what my odds are by remaining on their side?" All true, not a single subconscious twitch or change in breathing to indicate a lie.

"I'm fond of surviving, Agent Thane. I've made something of a career of it so far. And I've got no desire to end up dead or worse just to save a man who pretends to goodness while being just as terrible as the things he supposedly fights." A hint of venom creeps into her tone, entirely unfeigned. She neither likes nor trusts the Doctor, for all that people she does like and trust seem to think the world of him. Better an honest monster than a hypocrite in saint's clothing.

I haven't seen you before, Suzie thinks at the ( ... )
