Q: Pirates or ninjas?
A:
Genius mutant ninjas, of course.
The
xmenfirstclass ficathon was a lot of fun. I was nervous about signing up because I'd never participated in a ficathon before, but I'm very glad I did.
I had a some trouble writing my
story. Not only do I tend to have trouble with deadlines, but the fic length required was longer than I'd written before. My first draft was more Scott-centric, but I was stuck after a few scenes. Picture me counting words and worrying "How am I going to make this work?!" Changed the narrative style from third person to alternating first person POVs, and *snap* everything fell into place.
Then my womb o' doom acted up the weekend the story was due, made me feel like crap, screwed up my sleep, and resulted in me posting my story a few hours past the deadline. *Facepalm*
I was a little worried that the story didn't follow my recipient's prompt closely enough, but she liked it, and it's been my most reviewed story on ff.net so far, and all the reviews have been positive. I am feeling good!
The original writer for my prompt was, for whatever reason, unable to fulfill her duties.
sheepfairy stepped up and wrote
"Bad Ideas," which is an absolutely awesome tale of friendly Bobby and Pietro shenanigans. She did a GREAT job and I'm thrilled with the story.
All in all, quite a great first-time ficathon experience! Which leads me to...
guthrieville ficathon! I really want to have one. It has to wait at least two months, though - I'll likely be losing internet access soon do to a computer room renovation, and a ficathon seems like enough work in the best of times. Oh, but to have a ficathon centered on the Guthries... it would be so grand!
On the down side of fandom related news, it appears I have writers block. Many great stories in my head, all refusing to come out. It's quite frustrating, especially since I suspect it's an indication of my mental state in general. *Sigh* That, however, is a whole 'nother story.
