Workshop: "A Character Study of Slade Wilson, Part 2" by Ilyena_Sylph

In one of the biggest goofs in comics publication history, the first several Deathstroke issues released months before the end of the Titans Hunt storyline. Talk about spoilers. Even though it took until Deathstroke #5 for Slade to admit even to Wintergreen that he'd been forced to kill Joe... the issue of NT where Joe died wasn't published for ( Read more... )

Though I won't have a chance to read this at work today I did skip to the very end to see what you had to say about post 2003. Y'know, I don't think there's any person here who liked Slade pre-idiocy who could try to explain what's happened since. I'm one of the few who can justify some of the stuff that's happened but after that atrocious Final Crisis: Testament I just can't accept the way he's being written. The stuff in Batgirl also pisses me off. I'm going to live in lala land and write him how I want him and keep on redeeming him anyway I possibly can. DC--always known for a very black/white attitude with not much gray, unlike Marvel (at least up until the late 90s)--destroyed one of their most intriguing characters who was truly gray.

And now they're destroying Joey, too. :P

It's killing me with what they're doing to Joey. It's like everyone in DC currently has completely forgotten every shred of canon written prior to the last 5 or 10 years.

And the fact they wrote SLADE as joey's last name in the last Titans book will continue to make me twitch.

You know, one of the main rules on the community info is Be respectful of other people's styles and muses

Perhaps it would have been better for you to not reply at all.

Sorry this will not be a very thinky comment. Election coverage and NaNo are eating my brainmeats.

That said: great essay. I don't have as much canon experience with Slade as I would like, and this is a wonderful overview of what makes the character so interesting. It also made me want to write something with Slade and Gar, because their weird friendship is one of my favorite things from older Titans canon.

Apparently I need no bribery to get it started, because I wrote 600 words at work this afternoon. It'll just be a question of getting it finished. I probably ought to reread some of my Titans trades and scans for it tonight.
