So. Archeology test. Essay question on Sarah Hrdy's theory of Concealed Ovulation. I said to myself, "Self, you're never going to remember this crap for the final. What the hell do the sex lives of Austrolopithecenes have to do with your life? Monogamy versus harems versus promiscuity, blatant advertisement of ovulation versus concealed, finding ( Read more... )

AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! I thoroughly enjoyed this. But Draco is part-Veela, eh? So that'd would make him... Homo sapiens veelaris? That and magic would ensure that the boys are up to no good at any given time.

Now I wonder.. is the Veela gene a recessive one (looking at Fleur)?

Since Fleur doesn't get the wings, but has many of the other traits, I'd say it's partially dominant- like height. The traits blend, instead of being completely short or tall, you'd end up in the middle. Like crossing red and white flowers to get pink.

Thank you :D I thought it's time for something new seeing that I've come back to f-list after weex!

Is Fleur described as tall? And am not sure if she possesses allure proper. Her looks are very beautiful and stunning, but she did not affect Harry, did she (of course, he's gay/bi, but still!)? That made me think her Veela allure is a trifle erratic.

JKR once bleated that the magical gene is dominant in the magical/human mix (makes you wonder why Hermione's ancestors were so strongly magical bloodline, eh?) so I wonder if the wizarding gene would be dominant in the magical-being/magical-creature mix. Your thoughts?

You do realise that now you would have to post something similar about vampire!Draco or vampire!Harry, right?

The "tall" was an example of partial dominance. Think of paint colors. Her allure's a little weak, she doesn't have wings, but she's prone to fits of temper and has the superficial appearance.

I think the magical being gene, the "are you a wizard" gene, the "is my magic expressed" gene, and "how strong is my magic, exactly" genes are all different.

Here's the Leakey on Genetics

Vampires! OH NOS! That would take some serious research...*plots* Could blood be a legitimate food source? How much blood can one lose? What about the mate thing?

Could blood be a legitimate food source?
Heee, why not? Admittedly, there's less vampire fic than Veela fic, but from what I've read, the vampiric boys are attracted to One Person Only, for mating and feeding purposes. Well, mating for certain, and feeding in the sense that the vampires CAN feed on other people but their mate tastes best.

I am now remembering Harry Potter and the Inconvenient Condition and The Secret Vampire Underground Bureaucracy... sorry, can't send you the links but the first one's written by Mirabella (mirasfics on lj, I think)!
