A note to any artists interested in doing any freelance work, in any capacity: Always get the money up front. Always.
It doesn't matter if it's just a one-off, or if you trust them to pay you in due time, or if someone you know assures you that these guys are cool and that nothing will go wrong, or anything. If you can't get the money up front, don't bother. The one time I didn't get the money up front, I ended up wasting my time and ultimately getting screwed. Just don't bother. Save yourself the potential hassle.
