It's been awhile since I've been able to get on LJ, we've made the big move from Tahlequah to South Padre Island, and it's been quite an adventure. We still have our home back in Tahlequah, and are still trying to find renters. It is a slow process. I did not think it would take so long to find someone to get in there, not with as much room as it has. 4 bdrms, 2 1/2 bath, backyard, garage, fence. I started off asking $900/mo, but now am down to $750/+ $750 deposit. If we don't find anyone soon we will lose the house. But there have been people interested, just not folks that can come up with both rent/deposit together. School will be starting soon and we can only hope a miracle happens before then.
As far as life here on the island, it is considerably better. True, the island is much more commercialized than 10 years ago, and there are far too many people around all the time, but the winter months will be calm once again, until spring break. Baby has adjusted to the change quite well, and loves to play in the sand. Hubby has adjusted better than expected. He is a creature of habit, change is much more difficult for him than myself, but once we got set up, he was fine. Better than fine, to be honest. Now I have the task of
finding myself a job. In all honesty, I am a bit timid about getting back on the workhorse, or back in the saddle. It has been quite some time since I've had a 9 to 5 job, but I'm not going in with high hopes. I just want something where I can make quick money and something that will pay better than minimum wage. No, I'm not becoming a hooker, I'm going to try my hand at waiting tables. There are some cool restaurants hiring now, one is Amberjack's. It's not as big as Blackbeard's, but it's been around a long time and has a good reputation. I'm done working at the Library, and I can't see myself as a secretary for someone, but I'm sure something will come along later. I must practice my spanish. I'm sure I will get hassled for looking hispanic, but not speaking spanish. We did stay on the island during Hurricane Dolly, and it got a little scary at times, but the condo we are staying in has been thru hurricanes before, and the windows weren't facing the gulf, which was very good for us. The only the we really worried about was our car getting flooded out, but it didn't even come close. We were without power for over a week and without running water for two days, but after 4 days our landlord had mercy on us and put us up in a hotel in McAllen for an entire week. Luckily, that same day she offered the hotel to us, a gas station finally opened up on the island so we could fill her up and drive the hr 1/2 to McAllen. Otherwise, we would have had to tough it out. What an experience to remember. It's aftermidnite, and baby has wiped me out, so I must sleep, more to come tomorrow;;;;;hugggoooosss, kat
