Was almost ran off the road by trimet #2267 last week. Seriously - wtf? It passed on the right shoulder - no stop involved. Later, the same night, a semi tractor/trailer - moving truck! - got stuck (literally, "stuck" - it's a very narrow street)on our street overnight. At midnight, we get a knock on our door because some "professional driver" can't read her gps and just wiped out the Acura parked across the street.
Earlier this month, we spent the weekend in Heppner for the opening of Archery (Elk) season. Super Hunting Boy had an elk in sight and was creeping up on a 20 yard shot (which he would have made because he never misses) when his buddy (who was not supposed to be on that particular trail) spooked the buck.
Meanwhile, the two jrs and I were back in the Hugh Heffner suite of the local motel (complete with black furniture, a zebra skin on the wall and various assorted zebra print throw pillows - lol), trying to find somewhere to eat. Although the liquor store was open at 8am on Saturday morning, no restaurant (of the two) in that town was serving breakfast. And no one seemed concerned about that. Except the ice cream shop gal who generously whipped us up some pancakes. Phew.
Quite the place, Heppner. Except those working in the (very few)local shops, you don't see any locals. There seems to be a popular trend to sell stuff in "mini" (mini corndogs, pretzels and burgers at the deli; mini biscotti at the coffee place. etc.); however, most of the folks that we did see were rather, um...large.
The one little market did not sell much produce (expected in a farming community?) but had about seven different shelves of Gatorade. We ate quiet meals and never saw any other children at the playground; but when I took the baby into the library for a little nappy-poo, we found several abnoxious screaming children.
We did manage to come home with an elk, though.
A little tiny toy elk we found while playing in the local pool.
A mini.
