Tyrion is my favorite. He's just too clever for his own good, he really is. The part with him figuring stuff out with Young Griff. I suspected a little, specially the bit with the eyes. But it was so brilliant. He's so brilliant.
Easily my top two characters in the book. Dany's my number one though Jon's inching up fast. Jaime's wormed his way into my heart too but he's not in Dance With Dragons yet and wont be I suspect hardly at all. Tyrion is the only one who has yet to disappoint me. Jon and Dany both have been a bit whiny but who's to blame them? Dany's got enemies at her back and front, her babies are eating babies, and she has no ships to go to Westeros (like she's ready for that anyway). Still, all her mooning over that sellsword and chaining up the dragons. She needs to train them, spend time to get them disciplined.
Her counsel is pretty terrible though. Every ruler needs a little Tyrion around to help keep things in order. He would've done great in King's Landing had his sister not been such a major bitch. I hate Cersei.
I take back that stuff about Theon though. No one deserves the fate that befell poor Theon.
I think the problem with Dany is that she has great potential but not enough knowledge. She doesn't have the benefits of a maester to teach her the histories of kings before her so that she can learn from the past. She doesn't have a seasoned counsel member to aid her in the ruling of a nation. And she doesn't understand the culture of Slaver's Bay enough to play to their good graces. She'll learn if she has the time but if she doesn't get there fast enough there'll be a knife in her back before she can count the heads on a three headed dragon.
Jon's not doing so hot either. All this descent rising up is going to boil over I know it. Poor guy. I'm rooting for him too but he's making the same mistakes that Dany's making, that Stannis is making. It's hard to please everyone, I know, but I don't think he's making it clear enough to the others why he's doing what he's doing. Or maybe he has and they just wont listen. People can be stubborn like that. Either way, I think he should've eaten meals with them. Eddard Stark ate meals with all his men. He was their lord but by inviting them to his table he makes them feel appreciated, like he's not some high lord looking down on them. It doesn't help that he's young. Dany's got the same problem. And she's a foreigner while he's a bastard.
They both need Tyrions around to advise them.
At least Young Griff's listening.
In other news, NaNoWriMo camp is this month. Because once a year isn't enough. I was working previously on this story about a teenage girl who ends up embroiled in a ancient treasure hunt of sorts but hit a wall and couldn't get farther. Reading Game of Thrones and re-watching my childhood kungfu epics have inspired me on a different path though. I'm now working on a new novel about a different sort of treasure hunt in a different sort of setting. I'm actually recycling a fantasy universe that's been living in my brain for a really long time and I use it across various time periods whenever I get in my "I hate modern day settings" moods. I already had quite a bit written before but the NaNo count so far is 5,135. Not bad for a first day. I'm on fire for now but we'll see how it goes as we get along.
If all goes well it'll be just as swift and passionate as Kalista. If not it'll stagnate and wither like so many others.
