So I know this is kind of late but have you guys been keeping up with the dramaz over at Comedy Central? Apparently Matt Stone and Trey Parker were making episodes criticizing Islam and Muslims and some guy got so pissed he threatened their lives, saying they might just end up like Theo van Gogh, who as you know was killed by Muslim extremists for his documentary doing similar things but w/o cussing 10 year kids. First off, what a whining little bitch. There aren't enough extremities on my body for every person and/or organization Matt Stone and Trey Parker have criticized, made fun of, and made to look like a total douche. Even people who I generally think are well meaning get skewered by them, so let's not even mention people who are, on record, complete murdering crazies.

And I'm sure Revolutionmuslim.com isn't the first public forum or person to threaten the lives of this comedic duo. So why was this made into such a big deal? Is it because people take threats from Muslims more seriously? I mean I guess they have a better track record for successfully carrying out threats. They're not just Peta going, "I'll throw paint on you if you wear fur!" The extremists, they are well...extreme. Still, I'm a little surprised by the response from Comedy Central.

Don't they have REAL people talking shit about Islam every day on their network? You know. Steven Colbert. John Stewart... Those people? I'm sure someone somewhere who chose Islam as their religion has said on some public forum that they would certainly like to see those men dead for the blasphemy they've uttered against their all powerful and infallible deity. So what is the deal with this South Park episode. It's not like they haven't taken a chuck at this institution before. Why was this particular instance so important? So much so that they had to censor a great deal of the episode? Were they looking out for the safety of the creators or were they trying to please everyone? It can't be the latter, especially considering the other shit they've let the show get away with. So was it the first? Did they really give in to terrorists? Was it the right thing to do?

Maybe it was the specificity of it. They mentioned a recently killed journalist for doing a similar thing. Plus they listed the addresses of the two South Park studios. But that doesn't seem all that scary either. I'm sure I could google that shit and figure out approximately the same thing.

So why?

Hmmm...

religion, observations, tv, politics, social commentary
