Huge bruises on hands are not good for circulation to fingers.
I was playing frisbee on tuesday. From the right at half-court I forced center, and my mark completed a lateral pass there. Before Vivek could mark the new handler, he completed a pass to the outside right, deeper than I was. The handler was unmarked, and several people were open in position near the endzone. I had no chance of marking the handler before he threw, and the only sane thing to do was run downfield to block the play on the endzone. So I sprinted. Towards the handler. Point block running from behind, coming into his field of vision as the disk was released. Desperation and insanity win games. The chance of making that block, for a very good player, is maybe 1 in 10, assuming it's attempted. If it fails it's unlikely to even force a bad throw, and opportunities to make that type of block are fortunately rare. It's only the second time I've accomplished that. But they can end a drive with the other team in very bad position to defend, and really energize the team you're on, so they're definitely worth trying. But they're also somewhat dangerous, especially indoors, because you're basically sprinting to lay out, but you're too close to the defender to lay out between the time you first see where the throw is coming from and the time it passes you, so you have to stay on your feet and reach almost as far as you could laying out, and then once you either make the block or miss it, there's no guarantee you'll be able to either stay on your feet or hit the ground in a way that won't do too much damage.
In my case, the conclusion of the story of the block is that I hit the disk down. It hit the floor and slid. Right under where I put my foot as I took my next step. So I landed hard on my hand. Hard enough to bruise about half of my palm and put a decent amount of stress on my wrist. And not just surface bruises, like everything down to the bone bruised. Some bruising on the back of my hand. But no bones broken. It's mostly better by now, except that it's bruise-colored, and bruises don't help much with blood flow. But those problems will go away.
