Emily Miller flew out this morning, after having spent the last 4 days here in Seattle. I hogged her the first two days and then her friend Jenaline got her. We went to a Sublime laser show, perused the market, made a trip to Gas Works, lavished in Fremont's glory, admired the Lenin statue (!), lounged in front of E.T.G. with a streaming Americano, ate Indian food and obscurely saw a fellow Beloit-ian, and screamed over an intense game of Pit.
Yesterday was the most incredible day for weather in Seattle! It was near 70 degrees with hardly a cloud in the sky. In the evening, Emily, Jenaline, and Steve picked me up in Steve's 1975 cherry red Volkswagon beetle convertible and we drove up Capitol hill to Steve's house, on Lake Washington (also only TWO DOORS DOWN from where Kurt Cobain lived/died). We grilled turkey burgers, had some beer, and laughed for a good three hours. It was wonderful!
I am sad to see Emily leave once again, but ever grateful for the few days time I had with her... more than we've had in a few years.
Today is my Mom's second to last Chemo. therapy. If all goes as planned, she is nearing the end of treatment and the road to recovery. Incredible woman, absolutely incredible.
My plans for Spring break have fluctuated greatly this year. What started out as another intense hiking/backpacking trip to Yosemite quickly got shot down (apparently you have to book a year in advance for Yosemite!), and evolved into a WWOOF in the San Juan islands (well... my directory has been terribly slow to arrive... but...).... and finally come around full circle into a 9 day visit from CHRIS. Entirely did not expect that one!
He and I have been going through a lot lately in our relationship (including two weeks sans communication) and this trip is much needed for our relationships well being.
Random sidenote: The smell of meatloaf is wafting into my office right now from the hallway. Odd.
Odd little blippets:
Haley and I went to an all-nude, all-women spa a week ago. It was a great experience!
My friend Meagan placed 3rd in our annual Battle of the Bands.
Theresa took me out for dinner last week and it was phenomenally rejuvenating/uplifting.
Chris sent me a beautiful 4 page letter, written during our time apart, and also some oil pastels and a Lucinda Williams album (!). He is very thoughtful and knows me oh-so-well.
I will be in Shanghai in less than 6 months.
I am sick of getting sick (translation: my body is sick of my busy schedule)
Ladies: Check to see if your insurance covers the HPV vaccination and start the series soon!
