sorry

Everyone, I'm really sorry for writing these bitchy posts and throwing stupid tantrums. It's just that many of DC's changes are very disheartening to me, and I literally don't have anyone else to talk to about this in real life, to point out some things that I obviously shouldn't be so upset about, so I end up posting here instead. (I used to but he died...)

I'm still not over the big change in Teen Titans. It seems like DC wiped away relationships and changed some characters so completely they're almost unrecognizable to me.

Barbara is back to being Batgirl. I loved Batgirl when I was little (hell, I had a crush on her) and my love for her grew even more when I found out she was Oracle as I got into comics later. Babs as Batgirl again seems like a huge step backward to me.

What's also a big step backward is Catwoman. She's now back to her iconic thief-stealing self after all she's been through. She's back to abusing poor Bruce and clawing at him as she did on BTAS. I fucking hated that. I guess we'll never see their close relationship with Selina knowing about Bruce's secret identity or her little girl again.

There was so much progress with many of these characters in the comics...

What I love about the mainstream comics, especially at DC - and I think some people have forgotten about this - is that there are these great "original" stories and characters that have progressed to unthinkable levels not seen anywhere else. Not on TV (well, Oracle was seen in an ep of The Batman plus that live-action BOP show) and not in live-action movies. But at the same time we'd still have retellings of teams/characters that don't change the current teams and characters.

Like that Teen Titans Year One mini series. We'd have a retelling of the original Teen Titans in a mini series separate from the main Teen Titans, but it was still accessible and, most importantly, really fun. And that didn't alter the current Teen Titans book at all.

But now what's left in the DCnU is a new version of another Teen Titans group. Same with Birds of Prey. And none of them appear to be consistent with the old versions, nor do they appear new-reader friendly, especially to someone who used to watch that animated Teen Titans TV show and is looking for more of Raven or Beast Boy or whatever.

I really do understand the reason why DC felt like it had to push the soft reboot button. Some things needed to be taken away, like the events of Identity Crisis or Final Crisis. But I'm also annoyed that we're going to see the same stories again soon. More "secret origins" of characters that we've read about so many times before - I'm looking at you, Clark. (Though I am extremely excited Grant is writing Superman again. LOVED All Star Superman <3)

There ARE some things that I'm eagerly waiting to read in September. Bruce and Damian are together at last (I hardly believe Bruce is going to treat Damian badly in any way like some are assuming), Jason has his own ongoing at last, Dick is back as Nightwing again, JLA, JLI... the Legion is still the Legion, thank god (just separated for a while).

AND STORMWATCH. Midnighter and Apollo are together again!! And J'onn is co-starring in that book too! <3333

I just wish DC hadn't renumbered all the comics back to first issues and dramatically altered so many teams and characters. I welcome what I posted above wholeheartedly but good god I don't think renumbering and adding some drastic changes were necessary at all.

Back in 2006, NONE of the comics I started reading were at number one! I started reading comics because of the characters I saw from other media. And I picked up even MORE titles and trades as I learned more about other DC characters from the comics I read.

So this reboot is still a nasty pill for me to swallow. So difficult that I'm literally going through various stages of grief every day. And what I want to do the most is escape from all this reboot shit and read more comics but I can't concentrate. Same with reading your fics. I also zone out while watching TV and playing video games... I'm just so depressed. I just feel like I lost something really special and I'll never get it back.
