This weekend I got to take a small break from all my programming crap and go back to Houston for a wedding(daughter of friends of my parents.) I'm always up for weddings, since the food is always top-notch (and FREE!) and no one cares if I do white-boy dancing on the dance floor.
After the wedding Mass everyone piled into the reception hall across town and partied hearty. It was a Czech wedding, so they had lots of beer, BBQ, and of course the grand march to open up the dance floor. Most of the people there were from a nowhere town in Texas called Mexia (kinda near Waco I think), so there was lots of country music. I will say this, when my wedding occurs, there will be less country music and more rock. Gotta have rock.
I did some other stuff this weekend too, but a lot of time was spent babysitting my sickly brother. I swear, he was hacking and coughing so much I thought he was choking or something. His hair is now down to his shoulders...he kinda looks like a girl, and apparently he's actually making good grades now. He wants to come to UT after graduating. I approve.
In other news, I sure didn't pick very good classes this semester. Compilers and OOP at the same time? What the hell was I thinking? I'm swamped with programming projects, and there's just no time to finish them all on time AND do UTeach stuff at the same time. I think this will be my last semester in UTeach. I only have one semester of college left, and I still have 4 more UTeach classes before I get certified, and there's just not enough time. Also, it is interfering with my CS classes, which is a big no-no. Maybe sometime in the future I'll come back and finish, but right now I'm just too booked.
Speaking of classes, I missed my last chance to relearn how to play the piano when registration came and went and the Piano for non-music majors class filled up before I got to register. Then I tried to sign up for Creative Writing, and wouldn't you know it, that class was full too. To make a long story short, now I have to sign up for a writing component class that I'll probably hate....in January after my tuition bill is paid. Ugh. There's got to be SOME writing class that isn't either A) something I'd fall asleep in class rather than learn or B) not too hard. I think I can handle one of the two, but not both.
Hmm, also signed up for Networks and Operating Systems, the former because I know nothing about computer networks and the latter because it's required. Just one more semester of college left, and I'm still job hunting. It really is hard to land a job without good connections, since in the absence of connections all they have to go on is your resume, and let's face it - mine sucks, or at least it's not as good as all the smart kids'.
Dustin out.
