It doesn't so much bother me having there be a National Day of Prayer... it's the idea of "WE HAVE TO HAVE IT OR HELL WILL SPEW FORTH FROM THE BOWELS OF THE EARTH TO DEVOUR OUR CHILDREN! Oh... but those foreign heathens praying don't count."

Also, I do like how Obama at least acknowledges that people of different faiths, even those with none, are valuable members of society that shouldn't be ignored.

I think he even included Atheists in this national day of prayer in some speech he gave on the topic... I mean, not really expecting them to pray, but Atheists also have wishful thinking and contemplation just like anyone. I think he feels the day is more about getting together no matter who you are and just thinking and hoping for the better... it doesn't have to be associated with any invisible giant man with a beard floating above the clouds...

But yeah... I agree. Too much Christian peen... and I don't think religion in specific should be backed by the government. If you want a day of "wishful thinking" then that's fine, as long as it doesn't become "National day of sitting around thinking about all those foreign heathens getting burned in hellfire."
