Making friends is hard. I still haven't really figured it out. My friend seem to manage to find people, to date new people and so forth and so on. I ask them how they met and most of them say online, facebook, okcupid and sites like that. I find that there is something rather depressing about that statement. That we are incapable of meeting and making friends face to face.

That's sort of how I feel. I mean, is that how it's going to happen in the future... or rather now? We get matched up according to compatibility online, followed by some test runs? Why has it become so hard to say to your coworkers "Hey, let's go hang out over yonder" without it becoming this big schedule conflict and question of appropriateness?

I mean... there was this older woman that I worked with at Malmborg's, and she was wonderful. Felt like hanging out with my grandma which was awesome because I don't get to see my grandma much... but I just felt so weird about asking if she wanted to hang out sometime. Like... if would be stepping across some invisible boundary, or that the prospect of it actually happening was so unimaginable, the idea of her saying "sure, let's get pizza" seemed so improbable, that it scared me a bit.

I've always had a hard time going from a working relationship to something that works and last outside of that environment. I don't know why but people seem to have a hard time with it. I have a couple of friends I used to work with but now that we no longer work together I only seem them maybe once a year because they're always busy, I'm always busy... But it's sad because they are great people.

One of my good friends at work--actually the only person I really get along with in there--is older then my mother. It's fun, we'll hang out sometimes on Saturdays. And it was really just this impromptu thing that started with her wanting to go to the Farmers Market. So we went from there and started going thrift store shopping off and on as well. It's fun but it's odd as well. :)
