Ya know I had a long poem thing written out for this. I wanted to thoroughly explain to everyone how much I hate the concept of a band. Of course a band being used here in the musical sense. I've never encountered something more anthropologically more interesting than the connection of a few people through their love of music. Not only how this morphs and changes, but how it affects those around it. It seperates people into very specific groups. You have the ass kissers, a very prestigious group of bottom feeders who sap the energy of the band to contribute to their own existence. It's very easy to spot these people because they are the ones who never have an adverse thing to say about how something went. For instance...
Band member #1: How do you think the show went?
Ass kisser #1: It was great man, probably one of your best yet.
Band member #2: but we got off time alot...
Ass kisser #2: nah man it was great.
One could challenge me by saying that perhaps these people dont know very much about music and are actually stating their opinions. But I assure you friends this is not the case, they know very well what happens during a show. They can hear out of tune instruments, they hear when you break time, and they hear when you miss solos.
The second group of people split is the actual band itself. Being friends with the members of a band who will remain nameless, has taught me many things. I wish I could say Ive seen something more ego driven than the decisions made in this band, but doing so would be a lie. There used to be a love for music, that drove the creation of said music. But something broke, and everything changed. Now friends are expendable for the sake of the band. I've actually felt sick when discussing this. I dont feel well enough to finish this.
I'll leave you with a quote...
"what ever happened to the handshake
what ever happened to deals no one would break
what happened to integrity,
It's still there, it always was
for playing music just because..."
Never have I actually quoted NOFX in an attempt to reinforce a point I was trying to make.
