books 2007: Lirael, by Garth Nix
Excellent stuff. I had figured out who Lirael's father was and what that meant for her way early on, but it was still fun to see Lirael come to the same realizations in her own time and discover her abilities. I especially liked the part where she went down the ancient tunnel to the secret room; that was really cool.
