Last week Mom and I went to see the ballet Peter Pan. We really enjoyed it!
First, we had to switch our tickets - we had Sunday tickets, but because of our birth class on Sundays, we had to switch the ballet to a Saturday, which Mom was able to do painlessly over the phone. She got the new tickets in the mail promptly, and the seats were very comparable to our usual seats.
The ballet itself was a lot of fun - slightly different from the Disney Peter Pan, of course, and probably closer to the original book. The sets were darker and more sinister than you'd expect, which was pretty cool. Zachary Hench played Captain Hook in the version we saw, which was awesome - I really love his work. And, of course, the most magical moment is when Peter and the Darling children fly for the first time. It was done so expertly, so delicately, that it really looked real and beautiful, and the whole audience gasped.
Another fun part of this ballet is that so many children attended. I didn't see any kids who looked like they weren't having fun and enjoying the show, although one or two appeared confused about this not being Disney. Overheard:
"I want to sing!!"
"Honey, nobody's going to sing here."
"But I'm going to sing!"
Of course, it made Mom and I think about how, in a few years, we'll be taking a little person with us to the ballet for a special day out with Mom and Grandma. F really liked that idea when I told him (since, at least for the next couple of years, opera/ballet dates with my mom will mean special time for Baby and Daddy all day long).
Unfortunately, I totally fell asleep in both the second and third acts of the ballet and missed a good bit of the battle aboard the pirate ship. Oh well. Preggo Rox is tired.
