http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Rangiku_Matsumoto http://bleach.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page Personality: Rangiku is the incarnation of a cool big sis. She’s laid back, lazy, and care-free. She let’s most things slip under her but not without letting herself known. She generally has objectives and motives but doesn’t want to do them unless they benefit herself. She’s somewhat narcissistic, as evidenced in her battles against Apache and her interactions with Yumichika. She despises being insulted, especially over her looks and will not hesitate to toss an insult back, or rise to physical violence. She can also be rather selfish, as seen when she curses her zanpakutou, whine to her captain when she’s faced with work, or is forced to do something she really doesn’t want to do. She usually wines and then brings up scenarios to force others to do her bidding. Rangiku can commonly be seen slacking and drinking it up with Shunsui. She loves to wasted and ignore her work - as evidenced during a lot of points during the series. Her overall cheerful attitude, and easy spirited personality make her relationships to the other Gotei 13 very, very, great. The only other person in canon who insults her is Toshiro, her captain who constantly bags on her to do work and is usually uptight and serious - a stunning contract to Rangiku’s personality, and even then, despite their differences, they still respect and have a great deal of affection for each other. Rangiku looks out for him and helps him as much as possible. Rangiku approaches everything with a cheerful disposition (unless it’s work) and loves to raise spirits up and be the life of the party, and she’s quite good at it! Also, she loves to refer to her chest in natural conversation and is not shy to using her body for her own needs. But, she’s not totally selfish - she’s aware of other’s feelings and is sensitive to them. Like Kira and her grieving over Gin together, Hitsugaya worrying about Momo, and lecturing Momo gently in jail to not victimize her further.
Despite her seemingly carefree, lazy, slacker, cheerful attitude, Rangiku, when sprung into action as a last resort (or faced with the possibility of working) is manipulative, skilled, loyal and is more than great at strategic planning. She’s able to get out of work frequently by baiting her captain and sneaking off work without his notice or getting him to pay for her, time after time again. She creates new schemes to get Hitsugaya to do the work she should have to. Her multi-century experience zanpakutou, Haineko, which dissolves itself into ash that can be grouped together for a powerful attack, can only be efficiently used with imagination. Those 250 years has made her more than skilled with mental planning and strategy. This is best evidenced when Rangiku takes on 3 people at once, and decides to eliminate the advantage by grouping them close together and subsequently damages the party as a whole. She is also very determined when pressed, challenging Aizen and Gin (two captains who would definitely make quick work of her) and refusing not to budge. She’s strong in morals, and wouldn’t second guess herself. So those that don’t take her seriously may end up in trouble!
It’s also been suggested that Rangiku does harbor a deep sadness for Gin and past events of her life. Gin, in the past, saved her life. And after piece of Rangiku’s soul were taken from her to support the Hogyoku, Gin became more secretive and began to emotionally isolate Rangiku. Rangiku owes her entire life to Gin (after all, she was starving and about to die when Gin showed up and saved her) and dedicates her own birthday to when she first met him. She’s obviously distraught when he’s mentioned. In recent chapters, this deep longing and depression is explored a bit more with I
her desperation to have Gin live and be good with her - together and her heartbreaking crying at finding Gin dead, and learning that betraying Aizen, and even being with him, was revenge for having his men hurt her. With the recent chapters, Rangiku accepts but bemoans his death, thanking him for leaving him nothing so she’d be stuck over it, but wishing that he was there with her at the same time.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Rangiku is very lazy, as she frequently tries to get out of work or doesn’t bother showing up at all. She also lacks motivation and will most likely does what she wants when it comes to her attention (i.e, not bothering to eat until she’s hungry). She’d mostly idle around places and mooch or deceitfully con others into paying for her. She is also rather self-centered, which could make interaction and getting help for herself a tiny bit difficult. On the other hand, she’s exceptionally strategic, and is able to come up with great, great, tactics almost instantaneously with a glance. Once she makes a decision or a goal, she suddenly gains the drive to do it and she’s firm sure set on it. She won’t bend or break for anything, especially those that get in her way. She’s also deceptively strong, and quick and exceptionally durable. She’s also really smart and skilled would be able to use her pokemon to her advantage (once she explores them a bit), and discover the moves and other ways you can use them beside the standard use. She’s also really creative.

Samples
First Person Sample: [ ooc: this takes place after Rangiku has gotten used to her settings. Probably on the second or third day of being here ] Okay, so I just randomly show up here and I’m gifted with a red fox?
This could be worse! At least he’s like Haineko.
This isn’t too terrible, I mean, The Captain wanted me to do the paper work I put off all week. That’d take me hours or even days and that would be boring.
But, since I’m here, anyone want to treat a newcoming lady to a drink or two? I need some alcohol to get used to my settings. I promise I’m very attractive, so don’t worry. You won’t be getting some fish-looking girl. Where’s the nearest tavern? Or bar?!
- Lieutenant of Squad 10 Rangiku Matsumoto
Third Person Sample: So this was odd. Rangiku just remembered going to sleep in her Lieutenant’s barracks for the first time in a while. The great war was over. They won. Gin’s death was a cost, a big one, especially to Rangiku, but she was thankful he was the only one. She hated how he was dead, and how she had to accept his passing. After discussing this with Hitsugaya, she decided to thank him for always thinking of her. It was better than having him not cared at all, right?
Still, Rangiku being Rangiku, decided it was best to celebrate his life by compulsively drinking until she forgot she was a Shinigami. After a night on the town, she crashed on the floor of her apartment
. .....
So what the hell was she doing in a bed? In a room that wasn’t hers?! This isn’t traditional japanese furniture! Rangiku quickly sprung up and looked around, she was in her Shinigami uniform but no zanpakutou, none of her photos, no alcohol. This isn’t her home.
So, with that, she creeps down stairs and quickly leaves, but she was approached with some woman tossing a bag at her and shoving her at the door. The woman chanted something along the words of, “I love you, dear! Have a great day! Mommy loves you! Do your best!”
....Mom? Rangiku never had a mom. She was an orphan and painfully aware of the fact. "This has to be an illusion from Aizen. Maybe the war isn’t over just yet," she thought. Only he would be cruel enough to invoke a mom, but she decides to check the bag’s contents. She quickly sorts through them all with a look on confusion as she lists them all out. At least the clothes mom packed were vaguely trendy, but they look like they failed to fit. She then focuses on he pokegear, turning it on only to see Professor Oak. She just nods and looks somewhat irked at the rest of his explanation. Totally useless to her presence here. Totally. Useless.
“That’s great to know about the world, but that doesn’t even explain why I’m here! You’d think a professor would be more useful!” Rangiku isn’t really complaining about her new place, but she would prefer to come back home.
She grabs the pokeballs and slowly tosses each one down. Each time it fails, she let out a brief whine and a scream until finally one worked.
The bashful reddish fox begin to trot in a circle, “Vulpix! Vulvul!” Rangiku looked delighted! He vaguely resembled Haineko if she was materialized into an animal. At least this wasn’t a completely horrible experience, she now got to keep a cute little critter named ...oh. She can nickname it?! The only further increases her joy as she sets her sight on the best nickname ever, “Okay, from this point on, your name will be Haineko.” Even though they may not be the same personality wise, she still felt like she needed a partner to replace the one she lost. So she decided to go with the best partner ever: Her own zanpakutou. Sort of redundant in thinking, but it’s not like Rangiku was going to work hard. She’ll just idle in her thoughts, and go in circles on the way there.
Where is there? “C’mon Haineko, we’re getting to the bottom of this. Maybe there are others here, too!”
