Pb for your thoughts

Here’s an interesting little story. It details the circumstances surrounding a child who was refused access to a nursery school based on the fact that she is HIV positive. The foster parents fought a legal battle to get the child admitted and lost.

I was thinking about this whole thing. I imagined that I had a child who was HIV negative. After all, why wouldn’t it be? I’m not promiscuous, I’m not a drug user and I haven’t had a blood transfusion for 10 years. Then I imagined that my child found itself in a nursery school with another child who was HIV positive. The moment my child is exposed to risk of infection by a fatal disease, I figure all the liberal rhetoric is blown out of the window. I wouldn’t give a fuck about ‘rights’ and ‘freedoms’ and ‘non-discriminatory policy’. I really wouldn’t. The fact of the matter is that my child is now exposed to increased risk through no fault of their own. Maybe a pre-school for HIV positive toddlers is the answer. I don’t know. What I do know is that HIV leads to AIDS in the majority of cases and that there is currently not a cure for AIDS. It fucks you up. It doesn’t care who you vote for, it doesn’t care how liberal you are and it certainly welcomes the opportunity to ‘share the love’ with others. AIDS is the ultimate predator and yet folk are still insisting that ‘non-discrimination’ is more important than isolating, containing and destroying this threat to mankind.

So what’s the deal? Has society become too liberal? Is political correctness paralysing societies and making us blind to the dangers around us? Or do we accept increased risk and write it off to human kindness or somewhat?
