Its easy to forget we live in a blue county, leaving the safe confines of Travis, we entered the rest of the texas this weekend. Palin/Mccain08 signs, bumper stickers littered the drive to Inks Lake State Park. I got there a day early to have some alone time, and it was good, cracked open some whiskey, built me a fire and went feral for a good while with nothing to worry but myself, sharpened some blades, laughed, cried and gnashed my teeth (all while keeping up neighborly appearances as muggles camped on both sides of me in close proximity). We have this uncanny ability to pick weekends when the boy scout troups descend upon the parks, it was good but it was busy as the kinetic pace of kids running back and forth really set the pace for the evening/weekend. I must say as prepared as those kids get, there must be some sort of Poop Badge that needs to be implemented, twice now, i have run into the varmints in the restroom, leaving the restroom sort of disturbed, confused and insecure about things. I made the mistake of entering the same stall afterwards and my stars, those kids do poop everwhere but the commode at times, just some training in the latrine responsibilties, would probably help out the kid in the long run. I think when the time comes, we should form a non sexually segregated camp group where kids can learn the basics of camping, fishing, kayaking, hiking and all other ways to interact with nature.
We rented a canoe for 24 hours and went around Inks lake, even paddled out there at night and almost got suffocated with the midges flying out in the lake, all reminds me of blacklighting for bugs at devils river, long, long time ago. We actually brought out our fishing equipment (i fixed our fishing gear) and got S fishing (we didn't catch anything) but for some reason her patience-fu is strong on the little one so we will do this again very soon. Did y'all know that in state parks you don't need a fishing license to fish? Its something i didn't know up to know, it might be good to set up a fishing trip with some peeps soon, and see what happens. Up next this weekend Garner State Park, just Kaqimax and I, it should be good, this weekend was the first time we all gelled out there as a family, we worked together, we laughed together, we got dirty together. Its good to see the transplanted rose bush starting to grow and bloom in guerratierra....... it took a while but its getting there......
