It is no secret that I ship Harry/Hermione. That is my preference, period. That being said, I can certainly deal with ships that aren't my own as long as they are presented in a realistic way. This is JK Rowling's biggest failure in writing. If she intended it to be OBHWF from the beginning, then she should have set it up that way. She had plenty of opportunity to make Ginny a match for Harry, or even a character of interest. Instead she made her an afterthought, a character barely worth noticing. At no point did we get to see what Harry likes about Ginny. She's pretty and likes Quidditch. And...?
For someone who is "Harry's true soulmate" we are never shown a relationship with any depth. He doesn't seem to value her as a friend or have any interest in her existence until he decides that he is jealous of her kissing Dean. Even at the end of it all, he can't be bothered to go and look for her. No kiss, not even a conversation between them after the battle of his life. His only concern is finding Ron and Hermione.
As for Ron and Hermione... *shakes head*
She has tons and tons of opportunity to allow these two to grow together. Instead she shows two people with nothing in common excepting their best friend. Ron belittles Hermione and places no value on the things that she loves. Even when Harry doesn't agree with her, he supports her interests, while Ron never misses a chance to disparage her. I might overlook this if Rowling had allowed Ron to grow into a person who could be with Hermione, but instead she abandons all character development throughout the series and chooses to have read a book so he can "charm" Hermione into thinking he is something other than a dufus. Even without the subtext between Harry and Hermione this relationship would be doomed to misery/failure in any real life setting. I find it to be deeply sad that she failed so completely to sell the relationships the she claimed to have intended from the beginning.

Besides reading and writing fanfiction over the years, I have also participated in an online sorting community where I got to compete for the "house cup" with writing, icon making and taking simulated Hogwarts classes. It was a great deal of fun, and I miss it.

The proverbial shit is about to hit the fan at my husband's company. The owner of this pool company is all that is wrong with the world, but his manager has been a buffer and an ally through all of the ridiculous scenarios he has been faced with in the last 3 years. Said manager informed him today that he is quitting... tomorrow.
He found another job out of state, and his first day is August 10th. While we are happy for manager with a soul, it leaves Stephen in an odd place. There are a number of possible outcomes for all of this, none of which seem likely to go well.
For one thing Pool Voldemort is likely to tell manager with a soul that he can't even work out his notice.
MWS is recommending that Stephen be promoted to store manager. On the surface this seems like it could be a good thing, PV's horrible behavior aside. The problem is that he is the bottom feeder of all bottom feeders. Meaning that we can see him trying to have Stephen take over without giving him any sort of pay raise. Beyond the fact that he is 2 years overdue for a payraise as it is, PV is the sort of person who would try to find an excuse to fire him if he refused the position without an increase.
Now if he actually gives him the increase, this would be a very good thing for us. Based on MWS' status, Stephen should get a $4/hr increase, insurance and a company truck. However, it seems more likely he will be asked to double his responsibility for the same rate or maybe $1/hr more.
It almost seems like it would be better if PV decides to hire someone else, except that he has a habit to hire his buddies for jobs, and these people have quite a history of doing a terrible job and then trying to blame everyone else for their failings. On of PV's oldest friends was actually fired today over that very issue. In other words, this doesn't seem like the best option either.
Did I mention Stephen is looking for other jobs? *headdesk*
