Hey peeps ... I'm still around. Officially in Hattiesburg doing the work thing and loving the job. I just never get a chance to update because I don't have internet at home (we're avoiding cable and internet bills for as long as possible). Anyway, so when I do get to check my email it's up at the church, and I don't want to take up Sean's computer too much.
So, not much exciting going on, just trying to get settled. I pretty much started work a few days after I got here. We don't really have a head band director yet .. it's a long story. I don't want to be the head because I feel like I'll have more time to focus on the students ... also, it's not really an option for me either. Which is good ... it shouldn't be an option. 15 years ago this program was so hot I NEVER would have been considered. But, it's not 15 years ago, it's now, and I'm going to do everything I can to get it back where it came from.
Yesterday, Sean and I did a little mini-mission trip to the Gulf Coast to do some home repairs. Ours weren't that huge ... a garage and a fence thing. Another group had to completely demo a house ... hopefully in a few weeks there'll be another trip to Bay St. Louis ... they are building houses for immediate need down there. Yes, for those of you that aren't Deep South Dwellers, today, July 23, 2006, one month and 5 days shy of Katrina's 1 year anniversary, people are still living in TENTS in Bay Waveland. TENTS people ... it's so hot out, I could throw up, and people are living out there like that. It was awesome to help a little bit ... I'm looking forward to going back.
Anyway, I have to run, I'll try and update more... Peace!
