OH HO. So Light is. Rather. Complex. Or say, Dietrich's current thoughts/not thoughts and relationship with.

ON ONE hand Light is just an average human. Dietrich KNOWS the Death Note isn't an ability, but a tool. He knows Light is human and has human reactions and has a human brain (which he so gleefully took apart). He knows Light's body is human and he dies and heals and gets sick as a human. Dietrich has a very negative opinion of humans. He dislikes them. He dislikes most things, but he especially finds people wastes of space.

->Dietrich knows Light IS smart : despite his "u so stupid" Dietrich knows Light is above the average person in intelligence.
->They have a somewhat similar view on people : which makes Dietrich appreciate Light in some respects, but he still doesn't like him that much.
->Light has the Death Note : lol.

Dietrich is FULLY CONFIDENT in his ability to take Light. Any time, any place, he is convinced that in the end he'd win. Sure there was that incident with the handcuffs and the tree and he broke -- but he got better. Dietrich is strangely resilient, especially since he still believes in Cain-sama 10000%. Even if he didn't he's proven himself able to bounce back from world shattering revelations quickly.

He KNOWS the Death Note's powers now. He knows the limitations and the extent of what it can do. It's powerful, but it isn't an ability. Light couldn't do anything without it. Dietrich feels much more secure knowing that, for one. For two he knows exactly how it works. He's read the instructions.

HOWEVER he also knows that the Note can make him do things HE DOES NOT WANT TO DO and this makes him moderately wary (though not afraid of) Light. It's not the dying that bothers him, but the lack of control. If he gets Noted for a heart attack he doesn't mind it nearly so much (and in some perverse corner of his mind he sees it as a sort of natural progression/tool and would expect Light to use it blah blah blah). It's when it's likes he has to do BEFORE he dies which pisses him off. That and slow deaths.

Dietrich realized, after he heard Tres was in camp, that Light is HIS ONLY ALLY. Which was not a happy revelation for him. He can USE Radu, but Radu is not an ally, Radu is an enemy he makes do stuff. Light is the only person who knows about his -- ah, extracurricular activities and is still willing to form an alliance. So, it has to be Light. Dietrich is very :/ about Tres in camp, btw.

He also lives with Light. Which is just a barrel of laughs to him in some ways. Dietrich does get kicks out of doing things to make Light's life more miserable or uncomfortable. He thinks making Ishida think they're gay is HILARIOUS in some respects but absolutely boring in other. He'd much rather dismantle Light in public, but really, he isn't DUMB. He knows that there are certain things to be left for the bedroom private time. Also, he can't really kill Light in horrible ways because Light is his only ally at the moment and he really doesn't want to spend all of his time picking himself off of the sidewalk.

->Light was for bothering, then for killing and may or may not be edging his way into a different category.
->Light is not in the same category as Euphie or Sasarai.
->Had Tres not come to camp they would still be having a fatal pissing contest.

-> Dietrich does not mind if they indulge in some fatal pissing contest even though they have an alliance. He will, however, draw some arbitrary line of wherre the 'line' is and then viciously torture light if this line is crossed.

Dietrich is a fair weather ally if anything.

...am I still answering? Anyway. Dietrich thinks Kira is silly and his world is silly. Kira is trying to be a God in all the wrong ways. Light is unwilling to take the steps to sink to Dietrich's level which AMUSES him in so many ways.

On a professional level he thinsk Kira would be great to use.

On a five year old level Dietrich thinks Light is a poohead.

On a sadistic level he likes the OHGODIMMAGETRAPED faces Light makes.
