we will still need a song

so i know i went to nyc and all and haven't posted about my trip yet and how great it was to see everyone. and i know i've been working non-stop for a month now and have had the opportunity to say very little.

but tonight i had a truly transcendental experience.

i saw Hawksley Workman. live. in the flesh.

got to spaceland early since i didn't know if he was going on at 8 or 9. his manager sees me outside and strikes up a convo with me. "yeah, i'm here to see hawksley." hawksley comes along and is just gorgeous and sweet. "someone smells good he says." "i think it's him," she says. "yeah, it's definitely him." haha. hawksley thinks i smell good. so we chat for about 5 minutes until some people he knows (through the biz? friends?) come by. since i know my place as just like a little fan, i step aside so he can have his convo with them.

met up with danny. also chatted a bit with a couple strangers (which i hardly ever do). first "frank," then "jay." both of whom were nice and cute.

the set was great. opened with "your beauty must be rubbing off" (which has made its way onto 90% of my mix cds). also did "tarantulove," "smoke baby" (with a bit of chris isaak's "wicked game" thrown in), "jealous of your cigarette," "no reason to cry out your eyes (on the highway)," "safe and sound," and closed with a stunning rendition of "ice age." he really wailed on the harmonica on "ice age" and his voice sounded so incredible.

hung around for a bit after the show and he had quite the gathering of people talking to him :) he remembered me and what i did from earlier in the evening and shouted to me from across the room. "yesss!!! i'm in!!" i talked a bit more with him and his manager. got on the guestlist with +1s for the next two nights if anyone wants to join.... it's really a great show.
