i have no comment about the animal rights article, but i would like to say something about etiquette. i'm all for etiquette. it's great. i think everyone should have good manners, and i get pissed off when someone doesn't. i think it's fine if i judge them, becuase that's my right, especially if they're doing/not doing something that makes me mad because it makes me feel like they are disregarding my pressence and only thinking of themselves. i think etiquette is wonderful because it helps to bring a bit of order to our disorderly (oscene, careless, disgusting...) society.
there are very few people in america that have good manners. i found spit on the floor at practice yesterday. some nasty man SPIT on the floor during his lesson. this disgusting act happened in what is one of the most wealthy and exclusive sports clubs in new york. a place where, if you're not dressed in a suit and tie, you're NOT ALLOWED to go through the front door or use the main elevators--you have to go through a nasty service entrance and walk through a stairway and foyer with dirty towels and room service's left-overs; a place where 20 years ago women were not allowed into the tap room; a club that costs $20,000 for a family to join! in this place with all these crazy rules, there was spit on the floor. it makes me so mad. and this isn't the first time i've witnessed rich people being impolite. rich people are filthy, that's what i've decided. that makes them impolite. sometimes i think rich people are more impolite than non-rich people. but maybe they are just impolite in different ways than the non-rich.
am i judging impolite (and espeically impolite rich) people? yes, i am. and that's fine with me.
