[ Minako is sitting alone on the steps of Shyvere, looking down at a few cards she seems to be shuffling around in her hands. She's got a bandage on her cheek and a very concentrated air. She's murmuring quietly to herself: ]

Decarabia, Sati...

[ She shuffles the cards again. Strange - an observant person would've thought that she had two cards ( Read more... )

[Demyx is heading out to practice his sitar again; apparently a certain roommate of his doesn't care much for him playing loud music in the dorm they share. He heads on down the stairs, a small, carefree skip in his step, jostling the sitar in the case over his shoulder.]

Hmm? [He slows when he sees Minako, moving over to the side of the flight of stairs to avoid running into her. The cards catch his eye, and when she speaks, he thinks she's talking to him. He stops and scratches his head.]

Ummm, why'd you wanna get a job if the school gives you a house and food? [A student getting a job? UNHEARD OF.]

[ Minako squeaks in surprise, looking up at Demyx. She hadn't heard him coming. ]

Well, man can't live on housing and food alone, you know! [ There's a moment when she considers that. ] Actually I guess you could, but that wouldn't be much fun.

[He tilts his head questioningly with a lopsided smile.]
You aren't really sayin' that a job is fun for you, are ya?

Depends on the job! I worked in a jewelry store for a little bit, but that wasn't much fun - most of the time you just hung around waiting for someone to come in. But I was a waitress at a cafe, and a lot of the people there were really nice.

But even if the job isn't much fun, it still pays. And the money can really help out with a bunch of things.

[He doesn't look very convinced. He keeps on smiling, but waves a hand, dismissing the idea of jobs being helpful.]
Sounds like too much work, man... And so boring!

[He raises an eyebrow.]
What's the money gonna help with? I mean... the school pretty much gives us all we need, right? [Says the guy who's pretty much never really worked a day in his life since he showed up at Estrasia.]

It's really only as boring as you let it be. I used to make up stories about the people who came into the cafe. And a little work's good for you! [ She says it cheerfully. No judging here. ]

There's a bunch of things, really. Clothes and equipment for one. Food if I want to cook for myself rather than eat at the cafeteria. A couple of different odds and ends. [ She waves her hand idly, as if this part is just an afterthought. ] And, of course, more creatures for me to summon.

[His smile looks a bit more genuine for a moment. At least the girl has imagination-- he respects that she's trying to make things more fun. But still...] Heh. I don't see it. [Work? Good for you? You speak lies!]

Mm... [He considers, placing his hands on his hips, lips set in a contemplative frown. There was his birthday recently, when he thought he'd party... But the idea of having cake and other party food at the cafeteria was a bit depressing.] Maybe, but I don't think--

Waaaaiiiit... [The idea of summoning creatures isn't what makes him stop; it's part of his power as well, being able to summon the Dancers.] Wait, you... buy summons?

[ She laughs lightly at his reaction, hoping she'd get something like that. ]

That's the simplest way to explain it. [ She fans out the cards - five of them, all told - so he can see them. ] I can summon whatever's on the card. So if I change cards, I change summons! I can trade some in for others, but if I want any back I have to pay for them. [ It's a pretty simplified explanation, but even she has no idea how two or more Persona fuse together to create a new one. She's not entirely sure she wants to know. ] And unfortunately that takes money. A bunch of it.
