Weekend Recap

Feb 22, 2010 23:01

I woke up really early on Saturday morning because I had a lot to do.  I went to bed early so I didn't stay up to find out the first guest announcements for this year's Korean Music Festival.  One of the things I hate about this festival is that tickets go on sale before any guests are announced.  If you want the best seats, you basically take a chance and hope they get somebody that you're interested in seeing and buy tickets before anything is announced.  I took a look at what tickets were available and thought something good will still be available in the morning if I wanted some.  Morning came and the first few guests looked OK to me so I got tickets, but of course, a lot of better seats were already gone.  I guess I got a decent section (P1 row 3)--not bad for $35.  I should have just bought them earlier because they always get good performers.  I didn't get to go last year because SoCal picnic was on the same day, but I get to go this year.

After that I did my grocery shopping.  They were giving away free 2-liter bottle of Diet Cherry Dr. Pepper.  I'm not much of a soda drinker, but if you're going to give it to me for free, I'm taking it.  It's actually quite good.  After I dropped off my groceries at home, it was off to downtown.

I parked in Little Tokyo because Chinatown would be a hassle today. I can still park here for $4 today as opposed to $10+ in Chinatown. Plus, Little Tokyo is a lot more kickback today because everything's going on in Chinatown. I took a really early lunch before setting off on foot to Chinatown. I did this last year and I knew it wasn't so bad.

I got to see a bit more of the stage show this year. I basically saw a few local bands that were OK I guess. I didn't get to see any of this last year. The festival itself is alright--lots of people waiting in line to get free stuff that you really don't want. It's a lot like the Harvest Moon Festival in Arcadia that I've been to a few times. Why do I want to wait in line for a reusable shopping bag? After checking out the festival part, I walked down the street to find some curb space. I was pretty much in the same spot I was last year.

Year of the Tiger so many floats had some sort of tiger on them.

There are the usual dragons--and many of them.

...and lions.

Some of them really like to get in your face.

...and there were the usual important government people.

...and "celebrities". That guy's name is Only Won. LOL

...and amazing feats of superhuman strength.

...and floats. What do these girls have to do with the Commerce Casino??

...and beauty queens who wave non-stop.

...and stuff that you really don't know why it's in there, but it is.

After the parade was done, I did some walking around. I don't go into Chinatown very often. Looks like it's a pretty happening place. I should come here more often when it's less crowded and places aren't so packed.

I could have sworn that when the parade ended last year, it was almost dark, but not this year. I stayed at the festival for a bit more and checked out some more local bands before walking back to Little Tokyo. I did a little shopping and had dinner at that restaurant directly underneath Orochon. I keep forgetting the name, but it's a pretty good restaurant. I thought about staying for the Otogenic show at 2nd Street Jazz, but decided to head home instead. I was a bit worried the night before because it rained for most of the night, but it was a really nice day to be out and I'm glad everything turned out OK and I was able to get out to this event and not get rained on.

When I got home I was was pretty tired, but I still managed to crank out photos from Otaku Rehab and get them online.  I'm caught up on my anime con and cosplay backlog.  It looks like everybody's liking the larger sized photos.  I still got tons of space on available on the website.  I'll probably never use all the space.  I'll definitely be retired by the time I do.  There's 6 years of stuff on there and I'm not even close.  I still have a few other stuff to work on, but the hard stuff is done.  I still gotta keep crankin' though.  It looks like Sakura Watch through Fanime is going to be a pretty busy stretch.  It looks like 2-3 weekends each month there's going to be something to get to.

Sunday was pretty slow.  After my morning workout, I went to buy a new eyeglass case.  After I got home Friday night, I went to walk out to get something to eat.  Along the way, I must have lost my eyeglass case.  At least I was wearing my glasses at the time.  I only brought the case that night because I thought it might rain.  After getting back home on Sunday, I just took at nap and then watched some TV.   I was still pretty tired after the weekend.  I just needed to take a break on Sunday.
