Friday was a good day

Yesterday was good day. It was fun and filled with good news and generally nice and sunny in every way. I originally wanted to go to the movies, but I got the email saying that Cosplay Underground v. 003 was out. I spent the next few hours updating super-no1.com and getting my LJ post out. I hope everyone is enjoying the issue and the photos. After that, I decided to scrap my plans to go to the movies. I had an early lunch and headed to LA Live to check out the GRAMMY Museum.

I discovered that the GRAMMY Museum was here a few weeks ago, when I went to see a concert at the Nokia Theater. I found out there was an exhibit of Michael Jackson items, including jackets and gloves. I really wanted to see this. I do like Michael Jackson's music despite the fact that he's somewhat wacky. We listen to a lot of 80's and 90's pop at work and Michael Jackson is one of our favorites. Whenever his music comes on, it's an instant party. This particular exhibit closes this weekend, so this was the last opportunity to see it.

That's the lobby of the museum. Take those elevators up to the top floor of the museum and work your way down. Photos aren't allowed beyond the lobby so this is the only photo that you're going to get. Sorry. The top floor (4th floor) is devoted to various genres of music. There are many interactive stations and listening posts throughout the museum. It's all very modern. There was a lot of cool stuff to see up there as well--a guitar that Kurt Cobain smashed up, a bunch of handwritten lyrics by recording artists, a GNR bass drum head, one of Pavarotti's tuxedos, one of Yo Yo Ma's cellos, all sorts of really neat items.

The third floor has a big area with a bunch of soundproof booths where you can learn about the various stages of creating musical recordings--a lot of interactive sound engineering stuff. I like tech stuff so this was interesting to me. You learn about tracking, remastering, mixing, creating beats, etc. It's fun playing with the controls to see how it changes the music. There were 8 stations and they take about 10 minutes each and I did 6 of them. I even did the one for vocal where you record yourself singing the chorus to "Human" by the Human League and you have to remaster it. It's a good thing those booths are somewhat soundproof because I really belted it out. This was also the floor where the Michael Jackson stuff was. There were about a dozen jackets from various tours--a lot of heavily decorated stuff with lots of sequins. Some of those jackets weigh as much as 15 pounds. There were some gloves and some greaves. They were really amazing to see up close. There's definitely a lot of work that goes into them and there's a lot of detail that is impossible for me describe. This floor also has a large section devoted to the GRAMMY Awards show. You learn about the history of the awards. You get to see what's really inside those sealed envelopes. It's really quite plain. There's a lot of stuff here from past award shows.

The second floor is a theater. Today was a 17 minute video of the behind the scenes stuff from the Beyonce/Tina Turner performance. It was really cool. This was also where the souvenir shop was. I didn't get anything. That's pretty much it. I spent nearly three hours here and I really enjoyed it. It's a really fun and interesting place. A lot of you will be coming for AX soon, so if you have time, go check it out. It's amazing!!

In other stuff, Friday is also the day when they usually announce what the Rock Band downloads will be for next week:

Hellyeah!!! I'm getting the whole album because I'm the mood to belt out some Guns N Roses and I like the Chinese Democracy album. I've been waiting for this download to come out and I'm really excited that it's coming out next week. I'm going to have fun with this. I want to play with other people so badly right now.

I haven't been posting what I've downloaded latey but I've purchased:
Pearl Jam - "Black"
Pearl Jam - "Even Flow"
Pearl Jam - "Jeremy"
Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'"
Pat Benatar - "Heartbreaker"
Staind - "This Is It"

I was able to pass expert drums of most of them. "Jeremy" was my favorite. The last two minutes are hell but it's one of my most favorite songs ever.
