PMX Music Program

Oct 02, 2008 21:36

It looks like PMX has its entire music program lineup posted. Two night of shows this year.

Friday
Suicide Ali
LYV
Vamp Star

Saturday
Kaya
Nylon Pink
Heday

I talked about Suicide Ali a few weeks ago when that was announced. Everything else was announced yesterday. Suicide Ali created a little buzz in the Jrock community. Some people have heard of them, but people who like Jrock will probably warm up to it even if they've never heard of this band. It's real hard rock and I wish the vocals would come out a little cleaner, but I guess that's they're style. As a headliner, I guess they're decent. Tainted Reality is bringing them in and they're the same folks who brought Candy Spooky Theater last year so I guess they like bringing their bands to this convention.

LYV is pretty good. They were part of the this year's Musicfest at Fanime. Thee Out Mods owned the Friday show, but this band really caught my attention and was definitely the second best band of the night. These guys can play and should be a good opener for Suicide Ali.

Vamp Star is kinda WTF? Isn't this that crappy band called lo:lita that performed at Anime LA, but this time they have two dancing chicks? Sorry, but that performance was extremely amateurish. The guys can barely play their instruments. The sexy girls are just eye candy. I don't expect too much from this band.  I can't believe that they're serious at all.

Saturday's lineup is rather interesting. It's a bit more on the pop side. Kaya--interesting choice. I've never heard of this guy, but I looked at the myspace and checked out the samples. The guy should seriously put away the frilly outfits and makeup because this guy has a good voice. I was surprised, but pleasantly surprised. Hopefully the live show is good. I hate karaoke shows, but I don't know if this guy will perform with a band or not. I hope he does.
Nylon Pink. What can I say about Nylon Pink? Well, it's my old buddy Kaila Yu's group.

Aww. Aren't we cute??? hahaha J/K I haven't seen her since PMX 2005 when I did a private photoshoot with her. That still ranks as one of the coolest things I've ever done. She's such a pro. She's pretty much concentrating on singing now even though she is still one of the most famous import car models in the world. Really, she's a sweet girl and really down to earth. I haven't really heard too much of her music after her first album, but she writes all of her own stuff and sings so you gotta give it to her. I'm looking forward to hearing her newer music.

I don't know anything about Heday but it sounds like a broken english version of the Beatles.

Anyways, it's an interesting program. Once again, we don't get any major label artists which is not good, but that's the way the business is. Nobody from a major label will play at this venue because it sucks. We're still waiting on other guest announcements from other areas of entertainment, but it's nice to see some good variety on the music program. I don't know how much free time I'm going to have at PMX, but most of you know that PMX is one of those cons where I have to work my butt off covering other things and I'm glad that a lot of you will be coming to PMX.
