Who: Oerba Yun Fang (sharpstone) and Oerba Dia Vanille (lezcie) [CLOSED]
Where: The gardens/hedge maze
What: When Fang wakes up and realizes that their powers have returned, she goes in search of Vanille, fearing the worst.
Warnings: Angst and possible light swearing from Fang. Also extreme wordiness from yours truly.

Fang didn't need an alarm, not when the sun gladly shone through her window and right into her eyes. Grumbling something unintelligible, she rolled away from the offending sunbeam. She might be used to getting up earlier than this, but right now she was feeling better than she had in days. Like she could fight through a whole herd of beasts before break-

She bolted upright, twisting her right arm arm around to see the brand that she already knew had returned. She stared at the white lines that marked her as broken as her skin went hot and then cold. "Oh no," she said softly. "No, no, no."

On the last word she propelled herself off the bed, letting the blanket just fall to the floor. Her lips were pressed into a thin line as she dressed as quickly as possible, thoughts tumbling chaotically through her mind until it was impossible to sort them out. Finally one rose above the rest: I should've known it was too good to be true.

Fang didn't even think about the communicator as she hurried down the hallway. She forced herself to knock quietly on the door to Vanille and Namine's room, but there was no answer. It was only a second's hesitation before she opened the door; if it was an abuse of her power as floor supervisor, it would be excused by this emergency.

But Fang didn't have to take more than a step inside when she saw Vanille's empty bed, the sight hitting her not like a slap to the face, but more like a two by four to the back of her head. The shock and hurt of it reverberated down her spine, settling into her stomach next to the knot of anxiety already there. Fang backed out into the corridor, closing the door with unnecessary care. As she walked back down the hall toward the stairs, her hands curl into fists. It didn't matter if Vanille had broken her promise - she was out there somewhere. The image of her hurting all alone overwhelmed everything else, pushing the other hurts away even if it didn't excuse them.

Fang paused at the door leading out of Shyvere, trying to decide where she should look first. The forest would be Fang's first choice, but Vanille had said that she'd gotten in trouble there, so maybe she'd avoid it right now. Would she hole up in an empty classroom? Fang shook her head with an exasperated noise. This isn't getting me anywhere!

Slowly she raised her hands, locking them together and bowing her head slightly. Normally she wouldn't pray, but she needed all the help she could get. Actually, the last time she prayed had been back in Oerba, hadn't it? At the festival? The memory unfolded in front of her: the way the priest was standing and how his robes looked, the crowd of people and the celebratory sound of the music. And of course everywhere the flowers that were the village's joy.

Fang's head snapped up as her arms dropped back to her sides. The gardens - she'd look there first. "Please be there," she said under her breath.

And then she ran.
