PPS: a project I've very recently become involved in is launching something called the Trans Human Rights Campaign, and it hopes to credibly deliver exactly that, focused as a first goal on the seemingly achievable (with some hard work and avoidance of the usual implosions) task of getting an amendment to the Ontario Human Rights Code passed, in order to add gender identity as a prohibited ground of discrimination. It is the most hope-inspiring bit of community activism I've seen yet in Ontario, as a lot of strong personalities and credible, successful activists appear to be setting aside differences and committing to a cause that will benefit every trans person in this province, and likely Canada. I feel very privileged (yes, in all senses of that word) to have been invited to be part of it. It would benefit, in my view, from the addition of intelligent, articulate, firmly commmitted to the cause, task/goal-oriented, legally/politically savvy and hard-working trans or genderqueer or (insert gender identity here) people who aren't following an orthodox transsexual path. Is this something you might want to work on in some way?
