A note on political discourse
I just got an email from NARAL Pro-Choice America the subject line of which was "Enough of the name calling". The letter began,
Dear Chana,
The anti-choice smear campaign against President Obama's nominees has to stop.
Guess what, NARAL? Using the word "anti-choice" IS name-calling. I love you guys and I think you're doing great work and I will give you my money and eagerly await my chance to canvass with you this summer, but seriously, stop it with the mudslinging. Stop it.
There are lots and lots and lots of legitimate, productive ways to criticize misogynistic pro-life politicians. Refusing to respect the name they pick for themselves is not one of them.
