Things I do for fun

Last night I had to call the show I did the lights for. "Calling a show" means you sit in the back with your script and a headset and you tell everyone else when to do all their cues (in this case, just lighting and sound) so the timing's right. It gets super-stressful because there's so much you have to pay attention to all at once. Usually it's the stage manager's job, but she had a midterm last night, so I took over for her. It was really exciting--I haven't stage managed a show since last year and I miss having all that power--but also terrifying because I'd never practiced this show before.

I, uh, didn't do that great. There were two or three cues I fucked up (one rather visible, one not so important). But the director and everyone else was really grateful anyway, and it felt good to be in charge for awhile. I really want to have a career in theatre. If that doesn't pan out, maybe I could be a dominatrix instead--you need the same mindset, and people eyebrow* you in a similar way when you tell them what you do.

*Eyebrow is now a verb, 'cause cluegirl said so.
