Books books books...

I've been reading alot... I've been really into it since before I got a job. I wanted to do something cheap, and I realized I hadn't visited the library in a long time. I went first, just to check it out, and discovered that they had a collection of manga and comics avaliable to borrow. So I borrowed a bunch and finished reading them within a couple of weeks. Then I started to browse some of the books in the Teen Fiction section...  I like stories about ordinary people getting sucked into a different world, and there are PLENTY of those kinds of books in the Young Adult/Teen section. I thought I would share what I've read lately, and what I've thought about them...

Ironside by Holly Black
This was the first book I picked up. Apparently, this is a sequel to Tithe, but I didn't know that at the time, and read it anyways. Overall, I thought it was okay, but nothing too exciting. The characters were interesting, and I liked reading about how the main character had kept her true identidy hidden from everyone (including her mother).

The Princess Bride by William Goldman
I've always wanted to read The Princess Bride after watching the movie. The story is so awesome~! I was never bored, not even for a moment, because the author is always making little jokes, and the dialogue is so fun! The characters are all so cute too, and I was able to learn more about each character that I had not known when watching the movie.

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom
My coworker actually leant me this book. I heard about it before, I think... and I heard that there is a movie for it too. It was a very quick read, and I finished it in 3 hours. It was about a man who was slowly dying, but who was able to touch everyone who knew him. It was so sad, and I actually cried a couple times... it was written really well. I need to read more books from this author....

Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo by Obert Skye
I wasn't too sure when I first picked this book up, but somehow, I thought that I would like it. And I did! The story is sometimes compared to Harry Potter, but the only thing they really have in common is that the main character comes from a horrible upbringing. Leven is a boy with a horrible and lonely life, when suddenly, he meets Clover, his sycophant. Clover tells him that Leven is the only one able to destroy the Gateway to Foo - the land where dreams from man live. The characters were all awesome, including Geth, the toothpick, and the story was always moving forward. It was really enjoyable to read~

Leven Thumps and the Whispered Secret by Obert Skye
Of course, after reading the first, I had to read the second book. This one was way more exciting and interesting, now that Leven and his friends were in Foo. So many strange and neat ideas~ Apparently, the author said in an interview that it wasn't difficult to write these books, because Foo was real to him. Also, there is actually going to be a movie about Leven Thumps in 2009... which I'm looking forward to.

HAVEN'T READ YET

Leven Thumps and the Eyes of The Want by Obert Skye
This is the third book.  It isn't in all the libraries yet (the ones I go to) so I just decided to buy it.  I'll read it soon~ There is also a fourth book out, but I haven't seen it anywhere yet.

The Navigator by Eoin McNamee
I picked up this book because I wanted to read the second book "City of Time". I felt that I had to read this one first, even though it looked and sounded less interesting than the second book. Aside from the slow beginning, the book was pretty interesting when the discussed the rules of time, and how it was currently flowing backwards. I found it a bit difficult to get attached to the characters in this book.

The Navigator by Eoin McNamee
This was the book I really wanted to read... I dunno.... the back sounded really interesting. It was waaay better than the first book. Everything moved faster, you got to know the characters better, and you learned more about the rules of time. In this book, time was literally running out - as in, the supply of time was slowly draining away. Because time and space are connected, the moon was slowly getting closer and closer to Earth, pulled by it's gravitational field. There is going to be a third book for this series, which is coming out sometime next year. I want to read it too~

Left Behind by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B Jenkins
These series are famous among Christian novels, and was even made into a series of movies. This is a fictional story about several people who were left behind from the rapture. The books follow closely with the Bible, and interprets what would happen if the events from Revalations were to occur today. I read this one fairly quickly, and it made me realize how Christian I really am, and that I need to work more on my spirituality, and my relationship with God.

Tribulation Force by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B Jenkins
The second book. While the first book mainly focuses on the rapture and the uncovering of the antichrist, this book focuses more on the main character's efforts to get the word out. I'm still reading this one, so I can't really say much more...

HAVEN'T READ YET

Nicolae by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B Jenkins
The third book. There are actually something like 11 or 12 books in these series. I'm assuming this book focuses more on the antichrist and his deceptions at creating a one world government, currency, language and religion. I will probably continue reading the rest of the books.

WISHLIST

The Time Travelers by Linda Buckley-Archer
I like the cover alot... and the back seems interesting. I saw it a long while ago in the store, but only recently remembered what it was called. I want to read it.

WISHLIST

The Time Theif by Linda Buckley-Archer
The second book to The Time Travelers. If I read the first one and it's good, I want to read this one too. I'm putting these on my Christmas list... haha...

WISHLIST

The Cabinet of Wonders by Marie Rutkoski
The cover somehow reminds me of Patapon... I wonder why... haha~ This one sounds so crazy and strange, I have to read it.

WISHLIST

The Faerie Door by B J Maxwell
Looks interesting... and that's all I have to say.
That took way too long to write out. I'm sorry that I'm not able to review the book very well... I'm not good at reviews. I just know what I like and what I don't like. And I know for sure, I don't like Twilight... and yeah, I did try to read it, mostly to please my sister, but I just couldn't get passed the first couple of chapters. I tried listening to the audio tape, and that was worse.... such a boring and predictable plotline, 2D characters and amature-ish writing.... There are just so many books that are way better than the Twilight series.....

wishlist, books
