Funny, well, not funny hilarious of course, but funny that we need an assembly and all this beauracracy to determine that water is a human right. You'd think that would be obvious.

Some Facts a la UN:
-Residential water consumption is 10-20 litres per person per day in sub-Sarahan Africa. It is 350 litres in North America and Japan.
-Lack of safe water and sanitation is the world’s single-largest cause of illness.
-In some areas, 30 to 40 per cent of water use goes unaccounted for due to water leakages in pipes illegal tapping.
-In 2002, 42 per cent of households worldwide had no toilets and one in six people had no access to safe water.
-Individuals need 20 to 50 litres of clean water every day for all their needs.

Pet Peeve: Fracking bottled water. Kids, its tap water. Its tap water thats been put in a handy dandy disposable bottle which might have pretty pictures on it. But its still tap water. Mind you not all tap water is equal, but if you're tap water is less than to your liking, you could always filter it a la Brita or Pur, a one time purchase that lasts you quite some time and doesn't leave so much effin waste and give tons of money to corporations like Coke and Pepsi.
My family's been drinking more of it. They do it for the convenience of water ready for easy transport. And they always recycle the bottles sometimes reuse them too. I still find it fairly annoying. Looks like everybody's getting Nalgenes for Christmas this year.
My Dad points out that of all the things that have come about in his life, the popularity of bottled water "paying more for water than steak" as he points out, is probably the most unbelievable. If you had told him that even 20 years ago he wouldn't have believed you for a second.

So do your best to conserve water today. Don't leave the water running when you're brushing your teeth. Take a shorter shower. Better yet, shower with a friend as my prof likes to say. Good clean fun.
