First time doing a reaction post but I thought I should with all the excitement balled up in my gut over seeing dear Martha again, coupled with the idealist hope her and the Doctor would have a five minute conversation or something about their history together, maybe even the Doctor apologising.
A Martha fan still lives on in vain, but it's only the first part of a two-parter. I need to be patient...or start writing fic once and for all!
I really loved Donna flying the TARDIS - Donna's happy face, Doctor's anxious face made me giggle and squee - heee! And then the call! The Doctor's face, just portraying all these emotions, and when they finally meet again there was that very human and full of all the complicated stuff you get between two such people. Then Donna bonding with Martha - of course they would get on. I love the Doctor feeling all ganged up on - it reminded of a similar bit in School Reunion and I was just full of happy then.
I always thought Martha should have left when she did at series 3 especially after everything she went through (she really did go through the shit, after all, compared to Rose and Donna. Not that it makes me hate anyone. I frickin' love them all.). She seems much more self-secure, and is being just as awesome - I loved her being commanding and General Bad Ass TM (GBA). And then Oh yes Donna!
"My name is Donna, since you didn't ask. I'll have a salute." I love it when she's being Sergeant Awesome (SA), which has been totally constant over these last four episodes. If she keeps getting more awesome I'll end up loving her more than Martha, and that's scary.
In the end my favourite scene was when Doctor thought Donna was leaving permanently, aww he really loves her. I do wish he would just as open with Martha, but hey, she got the short straw it seems, even if she is being GBA. He mentioned the Medusa Cascade, but does that mean anything from this episode? I loved the Doctor just being all emo Big Goodbyes and then Donna just goes "You Dum-bo!". It's such a great dynamic they have between them.
Evil! Martha is lookin' good. As RTD said in the confidential, it's one of the possibilities that could have gone for Martha if she was more bitter. Actually made me think of this awesome WIP
Wasteland by
imsanehonest (link to present chapter with all the previous chapters as well - read it it's amazing!) I hope the Doctor realises and goes all protective much thinking she's dead or something and realises he owes Martha a bit of an apology, or just a lotta love. Yeah, I'm being idealistic and I can't friggin' help myself.
Other bits I loved:
- The Sontaran Spaceship. I just thought it was a gorgeous piece of design. The DW team do so much work for the show and I hardly ever notice. I did this time and loved the shape of it (is it me, or does it sort of resemble the ship for The End of the World way back in series 1?). I think the Sontarans look fab as well. I saw Time Warrior the other day (well, half of it) and it makes you appreciate being in the 21st century
- MARRTHAAAA. *Coughs* Sorry, I just had to.
- Gramps. He's Gramps now. I have a habit of somehow shoving TV characters into my head and now he's one of them. If he dies I will be so upset. I was gasping so loud at that, louder than anything else during the episode.
- Ross. Preeetttyyy.
- The Doctor's grammar pwnage. God he would hate the internet - all that lolcat...
Have I missed anything from this episode? Oh, nothing I could think of!
And, finally, the next episode - protectiveDoctor! looks like go-go-go and I can't wait to see that. And, as I posted on the reaction post on
lifeonmartha, doesn't it look like Donna's gonna end up flying the TARDIS? (Donna running to the TARDIS; Donna yelling 'What do I do!/Tell me what to do' at the TARDIS central controls, Donna in some random place that could the Sontaran spaceship. IF so, then that would mean she would have that kickass Companion-saving-the-world-moment (Parting of the Ways for Rose, Last of the Timelords with Martha and all her other wonderful moments) 8 episodes early. Now, that sounds like something wicked happening underfoot. Maybe?
