sushi worth standing for (;

Sep 20, 2009 22:19

The night where we met up in full-force for Nor's birthday celebration over @ Standing Sushi Bar located at Raffles Place MRT. It was good ol' omakase dinner worth every single penny paid for :] I'm sure i'll be returning to try their other donburis too!

Omakase (お任せ)
The expression is used at sushi restaurants to leave the selection to the chef. It differs from ordering à la carte. The chef will generally present a series of plates, beginning with the lightest fare and proceeding to heaviest, richest dishes. The phrase is not exclusive to service of raw fish with rice, and can incorporate grilling and simmering as well. Customers ordering omakase style expect the chef to be innovative and surprising in the selection of dishes, and the meal can be likened to an artistic performance by the chef. Ordering omakase can be a gamble; however, the customer typically receives the highest quality fish the restaurant currently has in stock at a price cheaper than if it was ordered à la carte

At the Standing Sushi Bar, sushi worth standing up for ;)

Without further ado, let's begin with the food spam!

Happy birthday girl with her abundant of gifts from kino.
We hope the travel books will inspire your wanderlusts~

Happy toast from jan ;)
We ♥ toast!

The lighting was a little wee bit too yellow. Had to photoshop the colours! Don't mind ;)

First up...

Chuka Hotate (Scallop Wings)
Very appetising and yummy dish that has a light dash of lemon sauce :9

Sashimi time!
Yellowtail - Tuna - Swordfish - Salmon - Scallop
Love the scallop! Succulent and so very sweet :) Fresh too!

A very light course of mushrooms and ginger.
It's a very bland dish, healthy too. More for old people i was told ;)

Eggplant age with mentai mayo sauce
The mentai mayo sauce was a favourite amongst the four of us :D

Grilled saba fish with grated radish

While the rest had their fix of beef, i had fish next!

Cheese & Wasabi grilled fish
SO DAMN GOOD. A pity it isn't found on their menus though :)
The wasabi and cheese blended perfectly together. I was on cloud no.9

Tuna - Salmon - Hamachi
Nigiri sushi~ :9~

And of course, the highlight of our night!
We ordered a la carte of Tamago Nigiri sushi and Aburi Sake Toro!

The tamago sushi is the best i've ever had. Really unique way of presentation too. Rice smacked between the slabs of tamago <3 And the aburi sake toro that me and jw had.. :999 unforgettable. A mere description just won't justify how awfully yummy it is.

I droool at the mere sight of it..... ♥♥♥

Happy group shot after dinner :)

Toast is satisfied with the yummy fanfare.

Random nightshot while walking along the Singapore river after the very sumptuous dinner (:

Up next, Kaiho sushi for JW's birthday dinner! My tummy is happy but my pockets weep!
