The gang met up last night to pre-celebrate JW's birthday~ We gave the birthday boy the decision-making power to choose our dining place for his bday celebration and he brought us to this awesomemastic yakitori japanese restaurant that left all of us wanting more sticks after we left the place! It was utter fabo! And totally worth the wait. We could only make a dinner appointment for 8.30pm since the restaurant was fully packed/booked :( and a late reservation = not much good stuff left over from the first round of customers. Boo!
We all made a mental note to visit the restaurant earlier in future so that we can all have our Hotate Cheese :DDD Initially we thought it'd be a tad too pricey for our liking, but i guess the price is really justified for the food served at the place! Plus, since it's totally a la carte, what you order = what you have to pay at the end of it.. :D The next time i'm going there with the gang, i make sure i have loads of money to order as many sticks as i want :D hehe.
Kazu Sumiyaki is a small little restaurant that's located in Cuppage Plaza amidst all the shady karaoke bars/clubs! Hahah, i was quite taken aback with the amount of ktv pubs located there -_- so shady ok! Hahaha. But there are so many good japanese restaurants located there!! :p There were quite a bit of Japanese people dining in the restaurant when we were there too. Which is a good sign i reckon ;)
We had appetisers! Yummy fresh cabbage with bean-paste dip. It's really good. Seeing how i don't fancy vegetables.. and looking at the amount of cabbages i had last night. It's defo worth a try :) You don't get to taste the taste of the cabbage (if there's any), since the bean-paste dip is what provides the flavour. As jan says, it's like eating tapioca chips. You just eat and eat and eat without noticing. It's like a reflex action to keep taking and dipping cabbages in the dip. Yumyumyum.
The awesome Hotate Cheese!
Nor's so lucky!!! She got the last piece of scallop! After we tried her dish and wanted to order one each, the lady told us that they've ran out of scallops :( Bummers! Hehe, its okay, we'll try the next time~ Hotate cheese has a generous serving of cheese with crunchy scallops and mushrooms under the melted goodness :D You can tell she really relished in the dish with the empty shell! We were even egging her on to lick the shell clean. Hahaha.
Our assorted yakitoris :)
I love the prawn scallop bacon roll! Delightful!
More sticks!
The pork and asparagus is so-so only! Next time i shall just order fatty pork meat, and only fatty meat. It tastes so much better lah! Hahaha and cheaper too! :p The guys order the beef rolls and really enjoyed it. They were really lucky to get the last 2 sticks! See, next time really must go earlier! Haha.
Garlic rice, kuro buta, foie gras!
The garlic rice is good good. Even though it's just rice fried with garlic and some garnishings.. It's really quite good in its simplicity. At $6, it's good to order a few sticks and have a bowl of rice :) Hehe.
The foie gras was surprisingly not as yucky as i thought it'd taste like.. Hehe. The goose liver and tastes really.. oily! When i first ate it, it just tasted like eating a lot of thick oil.. :D yum. Only after swallowing the foie gras did the after taste come in. It wasn't that bad and JW says the taste would go away after eating more sticks of yakitoris.
My favourite favourite favourite yakitori is..
KURO BUTA BARA!!!! :)
I shall order 2-3 sticks of it the next time. Hehe.
FEEL THE HEAT of our many sticks.. :D
And feel the pinch :p
What's a birthday dinner celebration without aplenty of camwhoring pictures? :D It's been a LONG LONG LONG while since we've camwhored together. All too busy with work/school and all too lazy :p
What a fabulous dinner session..
Nanbantei was great, but Kazu Sumiyaki rocks better! :D
KURO BUTA SKEWERS PLEASE!!!!
