Iona campaign session 16
My hand still hurts. Ow.
The elves arrived on the scene, and it took the combined efforts of the entire party to stop them from lynching Luna, being the only Terasantian on the scene. Lydda and the others took Elodar's body back for mourning, and Luna stopped at a church in order to atone for her prior actions. The priest set her the task of dealing with a recent drow raid, which suited Luna as she had reason to believe the drow raiders had kidnapped Andriarch. Despite her protests, her friends insisted on coming with her.
Before setting off, the party had a few things to take care of. Nasira spent some time at the church gathering spells, and Adriai researched her new javelin. Lydda, Cheebo, and Robbo headed off to see Lydda and Robbo's parents. Also, Garrander made a quick stop at the council of elves to request they restore his form to him. They agreed and lifted the disease and polymorphed him back to a dwarf. Unfortunately, he forget to mention there had been a gender swap as well, so Garrander remained female.
The group made the way into the Underdark, where they were intercepted by some suspicious svirfnebli. Luna got separated from the group and stumbled upon a pair of drow scouts. With some aid from Lydda and the svirfnebli, they dragged the pair back and got info from them. Apparently, a heretic sect of male drow who worshiped Nascondu instead of Lolth had broken off from the other drow. Luna, suspecting them of being her quarry, led the party after them.
After being led into a nasty pit trap, the group was ambushed by drow, Andriarch among them. The drow snatched Adriai and retreated, forcing the party to pursue them. Adriai was brought back to camp and interrogated by the drow leader Liraquinn, whose lower face was covered by a scarf. Luna and Cheebo set off to spy on the enemy. Between their efforts and Adriai's chat with Liraquinn, they determined that the group was specifically after Cheebo, and that Liraquinn was Andriarch's biological father. He was using some sort of circlet to control Andriarch's body against his will.
Luna and Cheebo attempted to pull the circlet off of Andriarch, but realized it was worked into his head with tentacles. Their efforts to remove it succeeded, but temporarily drove both Andriarch and Cheebo insane, and alerted the drow to their presence. Liraquinn ordered his men to leave Cheebo for him, and removed his scarf, showing his gift from Nascondu - the lower half of his face being a set of squalid tentacles like those of the long extinct illithid.
The parties fought, and Liraquinn was intent on trying to extract Cheebo's brian. During the fight, Cheebo learned they were after him because he contained a piece of Nascondu in him. Cheebo's retort that he wasn't the avatar of Nascondu were met with scorn, as the drow cleric told him the whole truth: he wasn't the avatar, but rather an avatar. The party held fast and beat back the drow, who made a hasty retreat. Luna's paladin powers were restored, and Andriarch was recovered.
Next time: Josceline, Liraquinn, Avari, Teren...the list of people who want a piece of the party just keeps growing. And Desiree is totally a balor. Really.
