...the smell of burned Australian Magpie is hard to get rid of once it comes into your house.
And now we know why the power went out last night here in Taree & Wingahm. Magpie + transformer = cripsy maggie.
The poor little thing had a lot of fight in him, but the burns would have taken so long to heal, and he was so badly burned on his feet & wings and the risk of infection during the healing process was too great.
Rest in peace little poo-pie, and fly free and happy in the wild realms of Pan.

Side note: in care I have a Magpie Lark (orphaned), a Bar-Shoulder Dove (feather issues- bald!), a Lewin's Honeyeater (wing injury), a Scaly-Breated Lorikeet (tail missing, might be PBFD but could also be dog or cat attack, all other signs are healthy), three Rainbow Lorikeets (various leg or wing injuries, will release group together), a Little Wattlebird (orphaned), a Galah (older male, found in mud puddle, needs feeding up & rest), and a Black Faced Cuckoo Shrike (orphaned). This is in addition to my doves, my cockatiels, my mice and my glider.
Alexander the wallaby is at pre-pre-release; the Channel Bill Cuckoo & the Koel have been released for their big migration north for winter.
I have no life. :-)
And speaking of winter, summer here is still so cold that I have to wear jeans or tracky-dacks, thick socks & a jumper nearly all the time. NOT RIGHT- but I am not complaining; I love cool summers. But this is just wrong; something has gone very, very wonky with our climate this year.
And the rain has just started again as I write this. Hmmm... I doubt I could ever live in Phoenix again, even the winters there would be too hot for me now!
