I ran across
this entry in
picturing_food. She was talking about these moon cakes when someone said this:
"I am surprised American custom let you in. A lot of country banded any chicken/bird related product (egg) after the SARS thing, especially from Asia country. I live in Australia and the last time I tried to bring mooncakes and pastry in from HK the custom officer actually cut one of them open to make sure there was no york center."
Her reply :
"Well, I didn't declare when I went through custom. I would risk anything for food! LOL! But my boss declared her food including a box of mooncakes. Of course she got searched and they did cut open a mooncake. Lucky her that the box of mooncake our partners gave us in China were fruit mooncakes, so there weren't any eggs in them. The egg ones were all in my suitcase. "
I'm so glad that she decided to risk the US for her moon cake! I love it when the rules only apply to everyone else. I'm sure she had a SARS kit and tested them before she packed them in the suitcase.
This really aggravated me for some reason. I decided it would be best not to comment on it. Seems a tad selfish on her part.....
