Further to the Party Situation

Jul 09, 2014 12:11

Shira is now attempting to deny that she made a threat to bring the police to our house during the BOS party. Some of this has involved word games, some of this has been completely untrue statements. The actual and complete line in the text sent to a third party who was at our house that night was "Okay. On my way with the restraining order; ( Read more... )

This is starting to look to me like miscommunication caused by a too-brief text. Would you have felt the same way if she had written this?

"Okay. On my way with the restraining order; police to follow if Judah is still there and doesn't leave"

Irrelevant speculation, that's not what was written.

I understand, but when I listen to Shira's side of the story that seems to be what she had intended to say; it's unfortunate that she truncated it.

You know, I get teased a lot for sending long texts with full sentences and sometimes even paragraphs. But now I think it's not such a bad thing.

In any case, I read the text the way sunspiral did. But keep in mind that I wasn't there (I was in Alaska!) and I didn't witness any of this.

As an uninvolved person, I am terribly sorry this has affected you at all, and horrified at the extent to which it has. I very much appreciate your hostlinesses, and wish no trouble had come to you for your kindness and generosity.

Please know even if we are less loud than the troublemakers, there are many of us supporting you, and let us know how best to do that.

I didn't even make it this year, but yes. What cathijosephine said. Sounds like a headache.

Also, thank you for keeping LJ up on events. I feel this situation affects the community as a whole. I feared for the truth when the reporting came from only the loudest party.

I have no comments on the situation but I want to add, as glad as I am to hear that the police are helping in shira's situation, in the experience of myself & mine, the presence of cops has only ever made things worse & originated more problems, so I like the policy you have, and hope that the next time I can get to such a party (inshallah), if the cops are called (god forbid), I'll be warned so I can leave.
the authorities aren't always The Good Guys. personally, I trust the hosts far more.

Thanks - we do not view the police with trust.

Without presuming to speak for Scott, it's my understanding that he believes Shira has tried to shift the facts of the situation as relates to an element that is very important to Scott. He believes that her use of carefully chosen words is an attempt to avoid an impact that he feels quite strongly, or an attempt by her to escape responsibility.

While I think the fact under contention is quite small, I think it's understandable that if people feel the other party in a negotiation is changing their story then trust is lost and negotiation becomes much harder. I'm certainly sympathetic to that because I have felt that when people opposed to me changed their stories it led to many negative consequences (distrust, accusation of lying, unwillingness to compromise, etc).

Given that others have spoken up about Judah's behaviour, I continue to not be sure what the sticking point is.

Of course, given that there are people who prefer lack of personal consequences over preventing harm to others, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised.
